Chestnuts are a type of nut that many people love to eat, with a good taste and excellent health benefits. Currently, chestnut sales are getting better and better, and many people have started growing chestnuts. So how do you grow a chestnut tree?

1. Soil

The soil for planting is generally at a pH of 4.5-7, showing acidic soil. Secondly, the soil should have good permeability and convenient drainage. Therefore, chestnut trees are suitable for planting on mountain land, or on sandy beaches with sandy soil, and cannot be planted in alkaline soil.

2. Sowing

Before planting, first clear the weeds around the planting site. Dig one pit every 5-6m, with a depth of about 0.5-1m depending on the size of the seedling. Generally, during the fruiting period, the soil needs to be loosened, about 1-2 times per harvest. Before each planting and after each harvest, weeds need to be cleared to care for the chestnut tree. After planting, it is best to dig drainage ditches around it to avoid excess water.

3. Management

1. Before putting the seedling into the pit, place about 1 kilogram of fertilizer at the bottom of the pit, spread it evenly, then cover with 5-10 cm of soil before planting, to avoid the fertilizer directly corroding the tree roots. After filling with soil, the surrounding weeds and fallen leaves can be piled around the chestnut seedling for composting. Apply topdressing 2-3 times later, during the two periods of budding and fruiting. The fertilizer should also be appropriately combined with a certain amount of farmyard manure, with a total amount of about 10-20KG. Chestnut trees have a relatively high water requirement, so they need to be watered more often in daily care, generally once every 3 weeks. When watering, avoid water accumulating at the roots.

2. Chestnut trees have a relatively large demand for sunlight, and good light duration is the guarantee of high-quality chestnuts. If a chestnut tree grows too vigorously, the chestnuts it produces will become small and poorly developed, so some waste branches need to be pruned appropriately. During inspection, if diseased insects and insect-damaged leaves are found, they should be removed and taken away in time to avoid the spread of disease. On days when winter is too cold, cold protection measures need to be added at the base of the chestnut tree.

In the early stage of chestnut tree planting, management needs to be strengthened. After 2 years of planting, management can be gradually reduced. Therefore, special attention must be paid to the early stage of planting.
