Black raspberry, also known as purple raspberry, is a common fruit found on hillsides and in damp places under forest canopies. It enjoys the reputation of the “fruit of life” and has very high nutritional value. Many people enjoy picking and eating it, and it is currently being planted in most regions. So what are the black raspberry cultivation techniques?

1. Site selection and land preparation

Black raspberry has high soil requirements and is suitable for growing in environments with deep soil layers, good drainage and irrigation, and rich organic matter. Therefore, when selecting a site, try to choose soil rich in organic matter for planting. After selecting the site, deep-plow the soil to a depth of about 25cm and apply sufficient decomposed farmyard manure.

2. Planting

(1) Planting time: early spring.

(2) Planting method: select some robust black raspberry plants and plant them in holes at a row spacing of 2*1.5 m, then cover with soil and water thoroughly to settle the roots.

3. Management techniques after planting

(1) Water requirements: black raspberry has low water requirements, and generally the soil only needs to be moist. Therefore, in mid-June, when there is little rainfall, water a little more as appropriate; at other times, determine the amount of watering based on soil dryness and moisture and plant growth conditions.

(2) Fertilizer requirements: raspberry has high fertilizer requirements. Generally, during the growing period, apply more quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer; before flowering and during the fruiting period, apply more nitrogen fertilizer and appropriately apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to ensure balanced nutrition. If the soil has sufficient nitrogen, then focus mainly on phosphorus and potassium fertilizer; otherwise, focus mainly on nitrogen fertilizer.

(3) Trellising: after black raspberry grows for a certain period, it will produce vines. At this time, build some trellises in the orchard. Generally, it is best to set one post every 5 m.

(4) Pinching: when the branches grow to about 1.2 m, pinch them in time to promote the growth of side branches.

(5) Pruning and shaping: when black raspberry grows too densely, cut off all branches that are unfavorable to plant growth, such as dense branches, miscellaneous branches, and diseased branches. Generally, pruning at least three times a year is needed to ensure healthy growth of the blackberry.
