Aralia sprout is a wild vegetable, mainly distributed in the eastern part of Northeast China, and many people love to eat this wild vegetable, so how are aralia sprout seeds planted?

1. Basic introduction to aralia sprout

Aralia sprout is a perennial deciduous small tree, also called: Liaodong aralia, Longya aralia, Quebuta, Cilongya, Cilaoya, etc. It is mainly distributed in the eastern part of Northeast China, growing in well-drained forest clearings, forest edges and shrubs. It is a treasure among wild mountain vegetables.

Aralia sprout prefers sufficient sunlight, loose and breathable soil, good drainage, and fertile neutral or slightly acidic loam or sandy loam. It likes a warm and humid climate, with 25-30°C being relatively suitable, and it has extremely strong cold resistance, able to overwinter safely at -40 to -50°C.

In China, aralia sprout is mainly distributed in Northeast China, North China, northern Henan, Yunnan, Guizhou and other places, and there is also a small distribution in Japan, Korea, South Korea and the Russian Far East. It grows at an altitude of 250-1000 m in forest edges, thickets and open forests.

2. How are aralia sprout seeds planted?

Choose suitable land for planting, such as barren slopes, barren hills or orchards. Sow and raise seedlings at a suitable time (both spring and autumn are acceptable), and the planting density should also be reasonable. During the growth period of aralia sprout, water and fertilizer, temperature and light management are also required.

Among these, seedling raising is divided into open-field seedling raising and pot-tray seedling raising:

1. Open-field seedling raising

The bed-making time can be in autumn or spring. Choose a flat plot, loosen and rake it fine, apply 300 kg of decomposed farmyard manure per mu, and 50 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer applied at one time in combination with land preparation, then make beds. The bed width is 1.2 m and the height is 10 cm. After the beds are made, sowing can be carried out. The sowing time is set from late March to Qingming Festival. Aralia sprout seeds are very small. In order to improve sowing quality and achieve uniform distribution, fine sand should be mixed in when sowing, with a dosage of 10-15 kg per mu.

2. Pot-tray seedling raising

Use plastic pot trays to raise seedlings in advance in a greenhouse. The time can be set about 2 months before transplanting. The substrate can use crushed peat with a small amount of decomposed high-quality farmyard manure and compound fertilizer added. In order to increase viscosity, a small amount of yellow mud also needs to be added to the substrate. When sowing, first fill the pot trays with substrate to 3/4 of the depth. After watering, sow the treated seeds. To be safe, it is best to sow 15-20 seeds per hole on average. After sowing, cover thinly with a layer of substrate or mountain topsoil, and then spread a thin layer of vermiculite powder on top.

After planting, aralia sprout can be harvested as commercial vegetables in the second year. When the sprouts grow to 10-15 cm, they are picked. When picking, if it does not prick the hand and a fingernail can pinch into it, it can be harvested. Generally from mid-to-late April to early May. After three years, it can be harvested 2 times each year. The first harvest lasts about 10 days, and then a second harvest can be made.
