How to Grow Indian Mustard? Planting Methods and Key Techniques
Indian mustard is a commonly eaten vegetable, and it is grown in quite a few regions, so how do you grow Indian mustard?
1. Choosing the site
Choose loose-textured, deep, well-drained sandy loam soil for planting.
After choosing the planting site, deep plowing is also needed; once deep plowing is done, spread decomposed farmyard manure, generally 2000-2500kg per mu, and you can also apply calcium phosphate and plant ash, so that Indian mustard grows better.
2. Sowing
The dibbling method is generally used for sowing; you need to water first, then sow, and finally cover with soil.
Sowing is generally done from late August to late October; climates differ from region to region, so the sowing time can be adjusted according to weather conditions.
The row spacing for sowing is generally 30*40 cm.
3. Thinning seedlings
After the seeds sprout into seedlings, thin them in time, removing diseased and weak seedlings.
Seedlings generally emerge 2-3 days after sowing; at sowing time, scatter poisoned grain or spray pesticide over the whole field, which can control underground pests.
4. Other management
During the growing period of Indian mustard, watering, fertilizing and other management tasks must also be done well.
Watering: water more during the germination period, but the amount of water should not be too much; water little but often.
Fertilizing: apply topdressing in stages, generally 2-3 times; during the leaf growth period, apply about 15kg of urea heavily.
