Paris polyphylla is a medicinal herb commonly used for snake and insect bites, boils and swellings, etc. It is grown in many regions, including Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou and other places. So how do you plant Paris polyphylla? What are the seed germination techniques for Paris polyphylla? Let's find out together!

I. Basic Introduction to Paris polyphylla

As a type of traditional Chinese medicine, Paris polyphylla is mildly toxic, bitter in taste and slightly cold in nature. The medicinal part is the dried rhizome of the Liliaceae plant Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis or Paris polyphylla Smith var. chinensis.

Paris polyphylla is a perennial herbaceous plant with yellow flowers, a flowering period from June to July, and a fruiting period from September to October. It often grows in shaded, damp places under mountain forests or in roadside grass.

II. How to Plant Paris polyphylla?

1. Site selection

To plant Paris polyphylla, you must first choose land suitable for its growth. It is best to choose loose, fertile plots with convenient drainage and irrigation, and shade is also needed.

After choosing suitable land, the soil must also be prepared by clearing away stones and weeds, and applying decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer.

2. Sowing

Before sowing Paris polyphylla, seeds must be selected. Choose healthy, plump seeds free of pests, diseases and mold. After selection, sun-dry the seeds for 2-3 days, then germinate and disinfect them. When sowing, open furrows at a row spacing of 30 to 35 cm and sow.

3. Transplanting

After sowing Paris polyphylla seeds, seedlings emerge in about one week. Transplanting can be done one month after emergence. During transplanting, be careful to plant with the soil attached, as this can improve the survival rate.

4. Other management

Watering: In weather with more rain, do not water much. If there is too much rain, drain promptly. If the weather is relatively hot, then water reasonably.

Fertilizing: During the growth period, Paris polyphylla generally needs fertilizing 2-3 times per year. Apply fertilizer about 15 days after spring planting, once in autumn, and once again in winter.

Pest and disease control: Carbendazim and Bordeaux mixture can be used to control diseases, and deltamethrin emulsifiable concentrate can be used to control pests.

III. Seed Germination Techniques for Paris polyphylla

1. Chemical germination

Soak Paris polyphylla seeds in warm water at 28°C for about 10 hours, add an appropriate amount of carbendazim, then wipe them dry and place them in a cool place. They can be planted after 3 months.

2. Fine sand germination

Mix an appropriate amount of fine river sand into the seeds, generally at a ratio of 5:2 seeds to river sand, then stir, remove the outer skin, wash with warm water, soak in a carbendazim solution, then bury in river sand to germinate, keeping the river sand moist.

Planting Paris polyphylla is simple in some ways, but it still requires patience and careful care to grow well. If you want to plant Paris polyphylla, you must take careful care of it.
