What are the control methods for gray mold in peppers? This article explains in detail
Gray mold is one of the common plant diseases and is extremely harmful to crops, especially peppers. So in pepper cultivation, what good methods can be used to control gray mold?
1. What is pepper gray mold?
Pepper gray mold is a common disease during the pepper seedling stage. It is distributed in all regions and mainly occurs in protected cultivation. The pathogen of pepper gray mold is Botrytis cinerea, a fungus belonging to the Deuteromycotina. The pathogen overwinters in the soil as sclerotia, or as mycelium and conidia on diseased plant residues. Conidia spread and proliferate with airflow and rainwater, and field farming operations can also spread the pathogen. Low temperature, high humidity, and weak light are conducive to disease development. When humidity remains continuously high, especially during continuous rainy weather in spring, when temperatures are relatively low and ventilation is not timely, these are all periods when pepper gray mold spreads and increases.
Pepper gray mold mainly infects peppers during the seedling and mature plant stages. When seedlings are infected, the most obvious sign is that the cotyledons turn yellow, after which the young stem constricts, the diseased part breaks easily, and the seedlings die. When mature plants are infected, the leaves visibly rot or dry up, and gray mold-like growth appears when humidity is high. When pepper stems are infected, water-soaked irregular spots or streaks appear, gradually turning gray-white or brown. When the lesion encircles the stem, the branches and leaves above it wilt and die, and mold-like growth appears on it when damp, resembling fusarium wilt.
2. Control of pepper gray mold
Pepper gray mold causes such serious damage to peppers and may even lead to total crop failure, causing serious losses. So how should pepper gray mold be controlled?
1. Preventive measures: Use Meizhi 30—50ml + Wofengsu 25ml + silicone 5g, dilute with 30 jin of water and spray regularly. After spraying, carefully observe the condition of the pepper plants. If there are no disease symptoms, the prevention has been successful.
2. Early stage of disease: At the early stage of disease, use Meizhi 50-70ml + garlic oil 25ml + Wofengsu 25ml + silicone 5g, dilute with 30 jin of water and spray once every 3 days, spraying 2-3 times consecutively. After the gray mold symptoms disappear, switch to prevention and carry out regular gray mold prevention.
3. Middle and late stages of disease: In the late stage of pepper gray mold, use Meizhi 70-100ml + garlic oil 15ml + Wofengsu 25ml + silicone, dilute with 30 jin of water and spray once every 3 days, spraying 2-3 times consecutively. After the peppers show obvious improvement, switch to prevention. At the same time, pay attention to ventilation and maintain temperature to keep a good growing environment for pepper growth.
