Can purchased organic fertilizer be mixed directly into the soil? Pay attention to these points when applying it
In agricultural cultivation, fertilization is an essential part, and applying organic fertilizer can continuously provide nutrients to crops. So can purchased organic fertilizer be mixed directly into the soil? What should be noted during application?
Can purchased organic fertilizer be mixed directly into the soil?
Before use, purchased organic fertilizer is best composted first, as this can prevent root burn caused by improper application. Besides buying organic fertilizer from outside, those who have the conditions can also make organic fertilizer themselves.
1. High-temperature composting
Use crop stems or weeds, fallen leaves, swamp residue, etc. as the main body of the compost, compact the ground before the pile, and lay about 10 cm of dry fine soil to absorb the fertilizer. Then add an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer and microbial preparation, and supplement enough water. Finally, seal with mud or cover with agricultural film, and it can be used as organic fertilizer within 1 to 2 months.
2. Ordinary composting
Choose a place close to a water source with convenient transportation. Lay a layer of dry soil on the ground, then spread composting materials including straw, human and livestock manure, and fine soil. After mixing according to the fertilizer ratio, adjust the water content to about 50 inches of wet weight. Finally, seal with 3-5 cm of mud, turn the pile, and use it after the straw is completely decomposed.
3. Soaked liquid fertilizer
⟧Put waste vegetable leaves, melon and fruit peels, chicken and fish innards, fish scales and broken bones, eggshells, and moldy food (peanuts, sunflower seeds, beans, etc.) into a small vat or small jar or even a wide-mouth bottle, add water (if conditions permit, sprinkle some insecticide), cover tightly, and after fermentation and decomposition (about 2 to 3 months) it is ready (if the temperature is high, the time can be shortened; when using, add water to dilute, take the supernatant liquid, and use it as a top dressing).
When making organic fertilizer for flowers, plants, and bonsai, it is recommended to use the third method.
What should be noted when applying purchased organic fertilizer?
1. Be sure to use it after it is fully decomposed
Undecayed organic fertilizer contains harmful substances such as pathogenic bacteria and weed seeds. After application, it may cause problems such as pest breeding, weed spread, and crop seedling burn, so sufficient attention should be paid to it.
2. Be sure to master the application method
Organic fertilizer can be divided into two types: solid organic fertilizer and liquid organic fertilizer. Generally, solid organic fertilizer is used as base fertilizer, and liquid organic fertilizer is used as top dressing. In terms of application methods, powdered organic fertilizer can be spread before cultivation, granular organic fertilizer can be spread or applied to the roots with a fertilizer applicator; liquid organic fertilizer can be sprayed, irrigated, or drip-applied at different stages of crop growth, working with solid organic fertilizer to provide nutrients to crops.
3. Be sure to determine the application rate scientifically
The application rate of organic fertilizer should follow the principle of soil testing and formulated fertilization, and fertilization should be formulated according to soil nutrient content, target yield, and fertilizer nutrient content. Generally, field crops are applied with 300-500 kg of solid organic fertilizer per mu, vegetable and fruit tree crops are applied with 500-1000 kg of solid organic fertilizer per mu, and organic fruit and vegetable crops are applied with 1000-2000 kg of solid organic fertilizer per mu. The application of liquid organic fertilizer is determined according to different crop types and different production stages. Generally, the application rate increases with the seedling stage, stem and leaf growth stage, and fruit growth stage.
Although organic fertilizer is relatively comprehensive in nutrition, it also has disadvantages such as being difficult to decompose and being unable to meet the high-yield needs of crops in time. Therefore, do not think that using organic fertilizer means there is nothing to worry about. The fertilizers that should be used still cannot be omitted.
