How to Grow Wheatgrass: Methods and Key Techniques
Wheatgrass is a plant rich in large amounts of amino acids, vitamins and minerals. It can be juiced or dried and ground into powder, and it is good for the body. So what is the method for growing wheatgrass?
1. Nutritional components of wheatgrass
1. Wheatgrass contains minerals such as calcium, iron, manganese, phosphorus, sodium, cobalt and zinc, among which potassium ions are especially important. Wheatgrass can improve constipation and indigestion, and because of its ample potassium content it promotes intestinal peristalsis and absorption.
2. The young leaves of wheat contain high amounts of vitamins and plant hormones, while the older leaves contain more minerals. At the same time, wheatgrass can supply the most direct and most economical protein. The young leaves of wheat also contain tryptophan, which can treat short stature.
3. Several other amino acids contained in wheatgrass are briefly described as follows: alanine has a blood-forming function; arginine is one of the main components of semen and has a greater effect on men; aspartic acid helps the body convert food into energy; glutamic acid keeps the mind stable and metabolism normal; glycine is an indispensable component in the process by which cells use oxygen to produce energy; histidine affects hearing and nervous system function; proline is converted into glutamic acid, thereby possessing an equivalent function; serine can stimulate brain and nervous system function; tyrosine can promote hair and skin growth and prevent cell aging.
2. How to grow wheatgrass
1. It can be grown in an ordinary flower pot, a shallow-bottomed washbasin, or any container with drainage holes;
2. Soak healthy, disease-free wheat seeds for about 10 hours, then spread them on soil or moist paper towels;
3. Then cover them with a wet cloth or wet paper towel and place them in a ventilated, cool place to cultivate;
4. After a few days of cultivation, once the wheat has sprouted to half a cun in height, the covering can be removed to let the sprouts see light, and once the wheatgrass has grown to a suitable degree it can be harvested.
During cultivation in a ventilated, cool place, also remember to spray water to replenish moisture; only in this way can the wheatgrass grow healthily.
