Dichondra (Dichondra repens), is a plant in the Convolvulaceae family and the genus Dichondra. Note that dichondra must not be confused with the genuine Lysimachia christinae (also known as chuanxiong). It mostly grows by roadsides, on hillside grasslands or beside ditches, and has already been introduced and cultivated artificially. So do you know how to grow dichondra seeds?

How to Plant Dichondra Seeds

1. Land preparation

Prepare the terrain of the land well, deciding where it should be high and where it should be low; once the seeds are planted, it is not easy to change the terrain again. After determining the terrain, clear all weeds, apply 3~5 tons of farmyard manure per mu, with fermented chicken manure or cow manure being the best, then plow all the topsoil once.

2. Sowing

After preparing the land, you can sow. Dichondra seeds are relatively small, so broadcasting is mainly used; when there is no wind, scatter the seeds evenly, then cover with 1~2 cm of soil and press lightly, then water and cover with plastic film or degradable non-woven fabric. If the temperature is good, they will germinate in about 10 days; after germination, pay attention to watering promptly to speed up the growth of the seedlings.

3. Field management

Within 2 months of planting dichondra, manual weeding is needed; be sure not to use herbicides, as currently no herbicide can be used on dichondra. Courtyard gardens are relatively small in area, and mechanical plowing is difficult, so manual soil turning or water-spray sowing is generally used. If the soil cannot be turned, clear the weeds and then scatter the seeds directly, but before germination, water every day to keep the seeds able to absorb enough water, until about half a month after germination.

If we grow dichondra at home, we should properly control the size to which the dichondra grows; dichondra that is too large will be very unattractive, and it is also not easy to keep alive. The nutrients that potted planting can provide are also limited, but we can use some liquid fertilizer and spray it on the leaf surface. That is all for today's planting methods; see you in the next article.
