Rice is a cereal crop of the genus Oryza, with the representative species being Oryza sativa. Rice originated in China and India, and people in the Yangtze River basin of China were already cultivating rice 7,000 years ago. So when is early rice sown?

1. When is early rice sown?

Under normal conditions, early rice is sown from late March to early April. According to differences in sowing period, growing period and maturity period, rice can be divided into three types: early rice, middle rice and late rice.

2. Distribution of rice cultivation

The distribution of rice cultivation in our country is mainly in the south, and rice production is increasingly concentrated in advantageous regions. In recent years, rice production in our country has gradually concentrated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Heilongjiang rice-producing area. At present, the southern rice region accounts for about 94% of our country's rice sowing area, of which the rice area in the Yangtze River basin already accounts for 65.7% of the national total, while the northern rice-growing area accounts for about 6% of the national total.

Early rice production involves a total of 13 provinces, all located in the south, among which 4 provinces and autonomous regions, namely Hunan, Guangxi, Jiangxi and Guangdong, account for more than 75 of the national sowing area.

Middle rice and single-season rice production is distributed throughout the country except Guangdong, Hainan and Qinghai, among which 8 provinces (municipalities), namely Sichuan, Jiangsu, Heilongjiang, Anhui, Hubei, Yunnan, Hunan and Chongqing, account for more than 70% of the national sowing area.

Early rice is the southern indica rice that is cultivated earlier and matures early. Late rice production is distributed across 15 provinces in the south, with a distribution similar to that of early rice.
