How to grow garlic sprouts in water? Hydroponic garlic sprout growing method
Garlic sprouts are also called green garlic. Good-quality garlic sprouts should be tender, with fresh green leaves, not yellow or rotten, with white root hairs that are not withered, and a relatively strong spicy flavor. How do you grow garlic sprouts in water at home?
1. Garlic sprout preparation
First, choose a growing container and peel open the prepared garlic. The selected garlic sprouts should be plump and free of wounds. If they are sprouted garlic seeds, they will also sprout easily when the temperature is high.
2. Planting and setting in place
Before growing, disinfect once with an appropriate amount of carbendazim solution, then add an appropriate amount of water to it. Put the prepared garlic sprouts into it, and add water according to the depth to which the garlic sprouts are submerged, keeping the water level at two-thirds of the length of the garlic sprouts.
3. Care environment
After the garlic sprouts are planted, place them in a sunny spot for photosynthesis, so they will survive easily. Keep the temperature at 15-26°C. It is best not to use water with a very high temperature, so as not to affect sprouting. It is recommended to place them on a windowsill to receive sunlight, ensuring the garlic cloves get sufficient light.
4. After-planting management
If you are only growing garlic sprouts for eating, it is recommended to place them in a sunny spot. If you want to eat garlic yellow, you can place them in a dark place. If the terminal bud gradually withers, change the water in time. Generally, change the water once every 1 week.
5. Precautions
Before harvesting the sprouts, only change the water 1-2 times. When the garlic sprouts have grown 7-8 cm, they can be harvested. Otherwise, if the time is too long, the taste will be poor and bitter.
The reason garlic sprouts are relatively difficult to wash is mainly that their outer surface is rough and the skin is very thin, breaking as soon as they are washed. Therefore, many people, to save trouble, simply rinse them with water and eat them.
