Things to Note and Characteristic Signs Before Guppies Give Birth to Fry
I think many people have never seen a guppy. Actually, just from its name we can imagine that its appearance is somewhat similar to a peacock, very beautiful, so its ornamental value is very high, and many fish keepers like to keep them.
Things to Note When Guppies Give Birth to Fry
1. The fry should be kept in a smaller container; if it is too large, it is not easy for the fry to eat.
2. You can feed the fry chopped tubifex or crumbled egg yolk. Although egg yolk is quite ideal, it will pollute the water quality, so it is recommended to feed less.
3. Guppy fry do not need water changes; if the water change is not done properly, they are prone to pin tail. Changing the water once a week is enough; do not change the water too frequently. If tap water is used when changing the water, it must be exposed to the sun for three days. Each time you change the water, sprinkle some salt to prevent disease.
4. The water temperature must be constant; do not let it keep changing. The fry are very weak, and if the temperature difference during a water change exceeds 2 degrees, they will not be able to tolerate it. It is recommended to buy a heater and adjust the water temperature to between 24~26 degrees.
5. Once you can distinguish males from females, separate the fry, otherwise if the female gives birth too early it is not good for her growth. Combine them in the same tank at least until they are 2-3 months old. 4. Inbreeding will lead to degeneration and deformities, but it is not obvious in the first generation; by the second and third generations it becomes obvious. It is recommended to go only to the second generation, and not to the third generation.
The Signs Before Guppies Give Birth to Fry
1. The female likes to stay in hidden corners.
2. The female's belly swells up greatly, and above the anus, in the place where the belly is transparent, there is a patch that changes from yellow to black (also called the gravid spot; the blacker the color, the closer to giving birth). In albino guppies, the gravid spot changes from pale yellow to orange-yellow or orange-red. Sometimes the eyes of the fry can also be seen at the gravid spot.
3. Before giving birth, the anus will protrude.
Guppy Keeping Methods
1. Water temperature. A stable water temperature is one of the ways to speed up guppy breeding. The most suitable water temperature for guppies should be around 28 degrees. If it is to be more fixed, it should be set at 29.5 degrees, and the daily fluctuation must not be higher than 0.3. Under such conditions, guppies grow the fastest, and when they grow quickly, they reach sexual maturity quickly as well.
2. Keeping conditions. Good keeping conditions make an indispensable contribution to accelerating guppy breeding. For feed, you must prepare some relatively nutritious feed, such as barley worms, which contain very rich crude protein and fat; for growing guppies this is essential. If the main food is barley worms, then the supplementary food should be paired with freeze-dried bloodworms. Feeding this way over the long term can keep all the fish in the entire breeding system in a healthy state, which will effectively speed up sexual maturity and breeding. When the female and male fish have good constitutions, they breed more and faster.
3. Bacteria bed. The importance of the bacteria bed is self-evident. Only when the bacteria bed is controlled stably can nitrite be stabilized. When fry have been bred, the water cannot be changed. The bacteria bed must not only be mature, but also large in quantity, which requires effort in the source of the bacteria bed. The usual solution is to add coral filter material; this can not only supplement the alkaline source for nitrifying bacteria, but also prevent the PH from dropping too sharply.
Are Guppies Easy to Keep
Many people think that guppies are a beautiful small fish and must be rather delicate. In fact, anyone who has kept guppies knows that guppies are not as difficult to keep as imagined. Guppies have very strong vitality and are also quite strong in their ability to adapt to new environments. In the ornamental fish world, guppies can be said to be truly beginner fish, with a very low threshold for keeping, but a low threshold does not mean there is no threshold.
The lifespan of guppies is within 1-2 years. Actually, it should be a bit longer; it is just that on average it seems relatively short. Guppies themselves are very small; males are only 5 cm in body length, and females may grow a bit longer. If they have any disease on their bodies, it cannot be discovered at the first moment, so more attention should still be paid in this regard. Of course, under normal circumstances, if they are kept carefully, the probability of getting sick is still very small. Combined with some feed of higher nutritional value, guppies basically rarely get sick. Moreover, guppies are omnivorous small tropical fish and are very unpicky about food.
Of course, if there is a choice, you should still feed guppies some nutritious food. If you are a beginner, feed is more convenient. If you have kept them for quite a while, brine shrimp is the first choice; the nutrition of brine shrimp is beyond doubt. Of course, other live foods are also fine. Overall, guppies are still relatively easy to keep, meeting the conditions for beginners to start with, and they can also arouse the interest of experienced keepers. Easy to start, hard to master.
Actually, guppies are still quite easy to keep. We all know that fish cannot grow without water, so water quality is very important. In the process of keeping fish, it is not that the more frequently you change the water the better; when changing water, you still need to pay attention to certain techniques and skills.
