Analysis of Causes of Death in Scorpion Farming and Preventive Measures
1. About 1% of male scorpions die after mating. This is the natural law of survival of the fittest, and farmers need not worry.
2. Death from cannibalism. When food is lacking during the rearing period, water is lacking, conditions are monotonous, or density is too high, cannibalism will occur. Pay attention to providing sufficient food, maintaining appropriate moisture, spraying water when the climate is dry to increase air humidity, and dividing them into groups for rearing when density is too high, and cannibalism can be prevented. 3. Death from high temperature. When the temperature reaches above 41°C, it is unfavorable for growth, and at 43°C they die quickly. If it reaches 40°C, immediately open windows for ventilation and sprinkle water to cool down. If rearing outdoors, the scorpion pond should be shaded and sprinkled with water, which can prevent death from high temperature. 4. Death from strong odor stimulation. Scorpions are afraid of strong odor stimulation, such as paint, gasoline, asphalt, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, quicklime and chemicals, etc. Avoid placing items with strong odors near the scorpion room (pond). 5. Death of young scorpions eaten by mother scorpions. The causes are: first, weak young scorpions that cannot climb onto the mother scorpion's back after birth will be eaten by the mother scorpion; second, mother scorpions that are hungry after giving birth sometimes eat their young. Simply provide sufficient food, and after the young scorpions leave the mother's back, remove the mother scorpion in time, and this can be prevented. 6. Female scorpions that mate too much will fall ill and die. This situation is isolated, not contagious, and need not be taken seriously. 7. Death from natural enemies. Scorpions have many natural enemies, such as: rats, mosquitoes, snakes, chickens, etc. Pay attention to prevention. 8. Death from disease. In harsh environments or with poor management, scorpions will fall ill and die. Scorpion diseases include fungal diseases and physiological diseases. The causes of disease are mostly due to improper management. Simply do a careful job of feeding and management, and diseases can usually be prevented. 9. Death from spring cold after hibernation. This situation mostly affects weak scorpions, mainly due to insufficient nutrients stored before hibernation, or male scorpions entering hibernation before their strength has recovered after mating. Provide sufficient feed before hibernation and strengthen management during spring cold, and this can be avoided.
