The guppy, also known as the millionfish, is a small tropical ornamental fish, lively and active by nature, and easy to keep. Generally there are no restrictions on the keeping setup; a rectangular glass tank can be used. For the water used to keep them, a neutral pH is best, and the requirements for other water quality factors are not strict. This fish has strong adaptability to water temperature, with a suitable temperature range of 15-35 degrees Celsius; but the most suitable water temperature is 25-26 degrees Celsius; when the water temperature drops to 13 degrees Celsius, it will lie still at the bottom, not eating and not moving, and if this lasts too long it will lead to death.

Among everyday ornamental fish species, the guppy is a fairly common one. Not only is it cheap, but mainly its body shape and colors are very beautiful. Compared with other fish, it is relatively easy to keep, and for beginners it is also quite easy to get started with. It is believed that most experienced keepers have had experience keeping guppies. In many cases, guppies are prone to breeding confusion when kept, because there are many varieties and many lines of guppies, and if several kinds of fish are grown together, the above situation may occur. When keeping guppies, everyone should try as much as possible to separate and distinguish different lines. Here we introduce what guppies are like, and there are two guppy breeding methods you can refer to: 1. Mixed keeping of males and females of the same variety. That is, keeping multiple male and female guppies of the same variety together in one aquarium, letting them mate freely to reproduce offspring. 2. Keeping male fish of different varieties separately together, and keeping female fish separately together on the other side, and during the breeding period matching them according to the owner's needs. Regarding details to note about guppy bait: a careful person can tell from the upward-facing mouth of the guppy that they are an upper-water-layer fish that eats floating bait. They can use almost all the foods of other ordinary fish. Even newly born baby guppies can, but you must pay attention to the pollution situation of the water. Below are several specific aspects of keeping guppies, which everyone can use as a reference. 1. Before keeping guppies, disinfect the fish tank. Other fish may also have this situation. You can brush it once with high-concentration potassium permanganate water, then soak the fish tank in low-concentration potassium permanganate water for about a day; salt water can also be used. 2. When you start choosing fish, do not bring already sick fish home. When you bring new fish home, at this time pay attention to whether the water temperature in your fish tank has reached the temperature suitable for your small fish to grow. Your fish temperature of 26 degrees plus or minus 1 degree is relatively suitable. Do not open the bag; put it together with the bag into the fish tank, float it for 10 to 20 minutes, then pour the fish into the tank, and do not feed for three days. After that, feed twice a day, and it is best if the small fish finish eating within five minutes each time. 3. Change the water frequently, and try to use a filter for filtration. Water must be changed regularly. Like eating, change a small amount but frequently, on average once every 2-3 weeks, changing 1/4 of the volume each time. Drastic changes in water quality are very harmful to guppies. In addition, at least once a year you should also do a full cleanup. Guppies still find it hard to adapt to completely new water, so it is necessary to retain about one-half of the old water and then add new water. A few days before changing the water, you can first let the new water start aerating, so that those harmful substances disappear. In addition, pay attention to the oxygen consumption of the small fish. If there are relatively many fish, then you must add an oxygen pump to oxygenate the water. 4. For newly born fry, let them obtain food within a short time. Use cooked egg yolk or dried water fleas. Feeding crushed egg yolk very easily spoils the water quality, so leftover egg yolk should be siphoned out in time; dried water fleas are easy to buy, very cheap, and not likely to spoil the water quality. Crush the dried water fleas you bought; the finer the crushing at the early stage of feeding the better, and later as the fry gradually grow, it can be slightly coarser. The general principle is to suit the size of their mouths and make it easy for them to eat. Once they grow to a certain size, you can feed them adult fish bait. At the very beginning, you can first keep some ordinary guppies. When you have some breeding experience, you can keep some higher-quality guppies. You can also gradually upgrade your equipment, including adding filtration devices, placing a thermometer and temperature control device, arranging the substrate, cultivating aquatic plants, and so on. If you are interested, you can also carry out hybridization experiments according to different guppies, and there may be amazing breakthroughs.
