In order for fragrant pigs to grow up healthily and to reduce the occurrence of disease, we need to strengthen management of fragrant pigs and do a good job of prevention work. To do a good job of preventing disease in fragrant pigs, the following points must be achieved.

1. Strengthen hygiene management 1. Do a good job of environmental sanitation The fragrant pig pen environment must be cleaned every day, kept clean, and fly, rat and mosquito control must be done well. Train the fragrant pigs to defecate at fixed points, and collect the fragrant pig manure in a septic tank for biological fermentation and disinfection; clear and disinfect sewage channels and drains to eradicate mosquito and fly breeding grounds. 2. Do a good job of pig body hygiene Remove dirt from the fragrant pigs' bodies promptly, and promptly remove feces, urine, leftovers and debris from the pen. In the hot summer, promptly supply clean water so the fragrant pigs can cool down in the water; in winter, pay attention to regularly changing the bedding straw, and at the same time do a good job of ventilation so that the environment stays dry. 3. Do a good job of feed hygiene In feed supply, it is forbidden to use spoiled, moldy or deteriorated feed. Before processing, the feed should be fully cleaned to remove impurities. It is recommended to feed cooked feed or pelleted feed, and the feed must be guaranteed to be nutritionally complete. Grain feed should be fully steamed and cooked thoroughly to aid digestion. Feeding utensils must be kept clean and disinfected regularly. Provide enough clean drinking water, and remove the remaining waste water every day.

2. Persist in disinfection Disinfection is an important measure for preventing and controlling infectious diseases. Disinfection methods generally include physical, chemical and biological methods. Disinfection is the foundation of disease prevention, so the principle of “combining prevention and treatment, with prevention as the priority” must be adhered to. When no infectious disease has occurred, disinfection should be carried out as part of routine feeding management on fragrant pig pens, sites and utensils that may be contaminated by pathogens; generally, a comprehensive disinfection can be carried out once a week with disinfectant solution or a flame torch. Before a mother fragrant pig gives birth and before piglets are moved to another pen, the fragrant pig pen must first be thoroughly disinfected. Disinfection pools should be set up in front of the doors of sick fragrant pig pens, farrowing pens and isolation pens, and attention should be paid to frequently adding and replacing the disinfectant solution. When an infectious disease occurs, the environment, articles and excreta of sick fragrant pigs contaminated by the infectious disease must be disinfected every day at irregular intervals, and emergency disinfection must also be carried out for other fragrant pigs in the same group that have not yet become ill. Disinfectants usually used include 10% bleaching powder, 1%-2% caustic soda, 2%-4% formalin or 5%-10% Lysol, etc.

3. Isolation When an infectious disease occurs on a farm, sick fragrant pigs should be isolated immediately, carriers of the infectious disease must be strictly prohibited from contacting healthy fragrant pigs, and the condition of suspected infected fragrant pigs should be closely monitored; once symptoms appear, they should be isolated immediately. All pens and other sites and utensils used by fragrant pigs with infectious diseases must be strictly disinfected. Personnel raising healthy fragrant pigs and personnel raising sick fragrant pigs must be separated; when contact is necessary, work clothes, shoes, etc. must be changed and strict disinfection must be carried out.

4. Regular deworming Regular deworming is an important measure for preventing parasitic diseases. Generally, young fragrant pigs are dewormed for the first time at the recommended age in days; young fragrant pigs under 6 months of age are best dewormed once a month; adult fragrant pigs can be dewormed once every quarter; breeding mother fragrant pigs should be dewormed once before mating; lactating mother fragrant pigs and piglets can be dewormed simultaneously. Before each deworming, it is best to do a fecal examination, and according to the results of the fecal examination, choose an appropriate deworming drug. Commonly used broad-spectrum deworming drugs include levamisole hydrochloride, which can be given orally at 10 mg/kg body weight to remove roundworms, hookworms, filarial worms, etc.; albendazole can also be used, given orally at 25 mg/kg body weight.

5. Vaccination Vaccination is an important measure for enhancing the specific immunity of fragrant pigs and preventing the occurrence of infectious diseases. Vaccination usually uses vaccines, bacterial vaccines, toxoids, etc. At present, vaccines used for viral infectious diseases fall into two major categories: inactivated vaccines and attenuated vaccines. Immunogens used to prevent bacterial infectious diseases include live bacterial vaccines, dead bacterial vaccines and toxoids, etc. Immunization is usually carried out by subcutaneous injection, intramuscular injection and other methods.
