Enclosure wall If the courtyard wall of a farm household is lower than 2 m, it must be raised to 2 m. If there is no courtyard wall, build a 2 m high wall with brick and stone. First, to prevent the roe deer from being startled and fleeing, and second, to prevent theft.

Roe deer pens can, where conditions permit, be built with brick, stone and cement, or local materials can be used, such as wooden sticks, branches, firewood, bamboo poles and waste board scraps, to form a 1.6 m high pen wall, with a door left on the front or one side of the pen for easy management. The rearing area for each pair of breeding roe deer should be more than 6 sq m, and larger is better, as it is good for the roe deer's activity and promotes their growth and development.

The shed can be built with various kinds of tiles, or local materials can be used, such as rice straw, wheat straw and wild grass to build a shed. The shed is best built on the north side of the pen, with an eaves height of more than 1.7 m to make it convenient for keepers to enter and leave. The shed can be built at 2 sq m per pair of roe deer, for the roe deer to cool off and ruminate, and for feeding and giving birth.

The ground can be brick or coarse sand. A sand-laid ground is easy to clean and is not muddy on rainy days; a coarse sand ground lets the roe deer come into direct contact with the earth, which helps maintain the roe deer's natural qualities. Do not lay a cement floor, because a cement floor is slippery and does not drain water, and the roe deer easily slip and fall, which is not good for their activity. The ground should be left with a certain slope and several drainage outlets to prevent water from accumulating on rainy days.

For those with a relatively large scale of small-pen rearing, some small pens should be built for female roe deer to give birth and nurse, or to raise male roe deer during the estrus period. A large pen can be temporarily divided into several small pens for use, or fixed small pens can be built.

The feed trough can be made of wooden boards, iron sheet or cement, with a depth of 20 cm, and its size can be determined by the number being fed. It is generally placed on one side inside the shed for convenient feeding, and it should be appropriate as long as it does not hinder the roe deer's activity.

Water bucket Roe deer do not drink at fixed times, so a rubber bucket is generally better, as it is not afraid of being knocked, does not rust, is not afraid of freezing in winter, and can be used in all four seasons.

Other equipment For relatively large-scale roe deer raising, if conditions permit, small feed grinders, chaff cutters and other equipment can also be purchased.
