Symptoms: The diseased giant salamander (Chinese giant salamander) shows swelling all over the body, with congested and inflamed red patches and purulent ulcers. Irregular red lumps often appear on the body surface of the diseased salamander. In the early stage of the disease, there is a light yellow pustule the size of a grain of rice in the center of the red lump, and it gradually spreads and enlarges into the surrounding skin tissue. When the pustule ruptures, a relatively large ulcerated lesion forms. Necropsy examination shows enlarged liver with bleeding points, intestinal erosion, and increased ascites.

Treatment: First apply chloramphenicol ointment to the ulcerated area on the body surface, and at the same time inject gentamicin intramuscularly for seven consecutive days, injecting 15 mg of gentamicin per kg of salamander body weight each day, with a cure rate of 93%. Streptomycin and norfloxacin are effective. Administer sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim and kanamycin orally. For each kg of giant salamander (Chinese giant salamander) body weight, use 50 mg of sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim inserted into fish pieces for feeding, for 5 consecutive days. At the same time, inject 1/3 milliliter of kanamycin intramuscularly per kg of giant salamander (Chinese giant salamander) body weight for 5 consecutive days. Prevention: Every 10 to 15 days, disinfect the water body once with “Yuxia'an”. Note that during water changes and pond cleaning, care must be taken to prevent damage to the skin of the giant salamander (Chinese giant salamander) during handling, otherwise pathogens will invade and infect through wounds on the body surface. If new water is not added for a long time during farming, the water quality will inevitably deteriorate, and pathogens in the water body will multiply in large numbers and can also easily invade wounds of the giant salamander. Therefore, frequently changing new water can also prevent this disease.
