Prevention and Treatment of Self-Biting Disease and Hair-Eating Disease in Roe Deer Farming

1) Causes of self-biting disease: deficiency or imbalance of trace elements, stress, skin inflammation, parasites, viruses, neurological factors, genetics and other factors.

Symptoms: incubation period of 20 days to several months. Spinning, biting a certain part of the body accompanied by screaming, biting off hair, damaging the skin, tail tip, and muscles, bleeding, causing infection and death.

Treatment: ① There is currently no specific therapy; clean the affected area with iodine tincture and potassium permanganate, and the following medications may be used conservatively. ② 1-2% novocaine 0.5 ml, intramuscular injection, once daily, 3 days per course. ③ Compound vitamin B 0.1 L, calcium lactate 0.5 g, chlorpromazine hydrochloride 25 mg, glucose 0.5 g. Oral or mixed into feed, twice daily. ④ Chlorpromazine hydrochloride 0.5 ml, vitamin B1 1 ml, penicillin 400,000 units, nicotinic acid 0.5 ml. Single intramuscular injection, 3 days per course. ⑤ Hydrocortisone 2 ml per kg body weight, 5% glucose 20 ml, intravenous drip, once daily, 3 days per course. ⑥ If the self-biting is caused by mite disease, deworming should be carried out promptly.

2) Causes of hair-eating disease (hair-loss disease): deficiency or imbalance of trace elements, deficiency or imbalance of sulfur-containing amino acids (methionine, cystine, cysteine).

Symptoms: biting off the tips of hair on the neck, rump, and tail, with downy hair becoming shorter.

Treatment: ① Feed Top-Notch 4% compound premix. ② Feed 20 g feather meal or 5 g methionine daily, coated VC (Haoyijia) 4 g.
