How to raise Rex rabbits? Master these five breeding key points
Pay attention to improved breed selection: strictly select improved breeds according to the characteristics of Rex rabbit fur being short, flat, fine and dense. Color types should not be too many, and white and “eight-point black” should be the main ones, adhering to the principle of staged selection. When the body weight reaches more than two kilograms, attention should be paid to the selection of fur quality indicators, keeping those with thick down and a flat fur surface for breeding, and promptly culling unqualified inferior breeds.
Regularly replace bloodlines: after two to three years of breeding, different bloodline breeding rabbits should be appropriately introduced from other places (mainly male rabbits), while strengthening pedigree management to prevent breed degradation caused by excessive inbreeding.
Strengthen feed nutrition: Rex rabbits are fur animals, and the protein level in the daily ration should be maintained at 15%-17%, with appropriate amounts of additives such as methionine, lysine and cystine added to improve their fur quality. It is best to promote pelleted feed, which is both palatable and can ensure complete nutrition.
Do a good job in epidemic prevention and disease elimination: infectious rhinitis, scabies and foot dermatitis are the three major diseases troubling Rex rabbits. The principle of routine epidemic prevention and alternating medication should be adhered to, strictly controlling the spread of disease, and diseased rabbits with no treatment value should be resolutely culled.
Adhere to taking fur at the appropriate age: after Rex rabbits are raised to 5-6 months, when the body weight reaches 2.5 kilograms, it is the best time to take fur, unaffected by season, but old rabbits should preferably have their fur taken in winter. It is necessary to accurately master operations such as slaughtering, pelt removal, salting and drying, and strive to improve the qualified rate of pelts.
