How to Make Geese Lay More Eggs? Early Spring Rearing Tips
In early spring, temperatures are low and the weather is changeable. Most laying geese drop in production or even stop laying altogether, affecting the economic returns of farmers. To keep laying geese producing steadily, good feeding and management conditions must be created and careful management provided.
Keep warm and increase light. Maintaining the ambient temperature is the key to keeping mother geese laying heavily in early spring. In early spring, the goose house temperature should be kept at 8°C~10°C, with 15 hours~16 hours of light per day and night.
Rational feeding. The reasonable composition of the daily concentrate for laying geese is: corn 60%, bran 20%, cakes 18%, auxin and eggshell powder 2%. Each goose is fed 150 g~200 g of mixed concentrate per day, given in 3 feeds, one of which is arranged at 10 pm~12 midnight, that is, an extra feeding of pellet feed before lights out, which is beneficial for raising the laying rate.
Housing and “noise-driving the geese”. In early spring, mother geese are still mainly kept indoors and have little activity, so the geese should often be “noise-driven”, that is, gently driven to make circular movements inside the house. In spring, mother geese should go into water fewer times, and the water-release time should be shortened. Generally, they should bathe once each at 10 am~11 am and 2 pm~3 pm, or once at dusk.
Cleanliness and hygiene. The goose pen for laying geese should be cleaned often, the bedding straw should be changed and sun-dried frequently, and the feed trough should be scrubbed once a week with alkaline water. The goose farm should always be kept clean and hygienic to prevent the breeding and spread of insects, rats and flies. Personnel and vehicles entering and leaving the goose farm should be disinfected, and a disinfection pool should be set up at the entrance.
