Five key points to note in mink farming
1. Raise good breeding mink
Breeding mink are required to have glossy fur, consistent coat color on the back and belly, relatively short guard hairs, guard hair tips and underfur level with each other, high density, even distribution, soft fur, good elasticity, guard hairs slightly longer than the underfur, and sable mink with no white guard hairs or white spots. Such mink have good fur quality.
2. Do a good job of feeding and management during the breeding period
Male breeding mink must enter the preparatory feeding period for breeding in late January. During the breeding period, high-quality concentrated feed must be supplied to male breeding mink, with fresh blood, eggs, milk, fish and other animal-based feed accounting for more than 80%, while at the same time adding drugs that nourish yin and strengthen yang - Liuwei Dihuang Wan, epimedium, and vitamin E, vitamin B, vitamin C, etc. Inbreeding must be eliminated to prevent degeneration of the breeding mink. In the late gestation period of female breeding mink, high-quality feed must be supplied to them; when slaughtering animals for feeding, organs containing sex hormones such as the adrenal glands and pituitary gland must be removed, so as to avoid stillbirth or miscarriage after the female breeding mink eats them.
3. Pay attention to keeping warm and improve the survival rate of newborn mink
After newborn mink are born, hot water bags should be placed above, below and on both sides of the birthing box to keep them warm, so as to improve the survival rate of newborn mink.
4. Prevent disease
Generally, during the period when young mink grow and develop quickly (July to August), the temperature is high, air humidity is high, and feed is prone to spoilage, so mink are extremely susceptible to digestive tract diseases. Fresh purslane, Patrinia scabiosaefolia, Plantago seed, Viola philippica, dandelion and other Chinese herbal medicines should be added to the feed. This can not only reduce feed costs, but also prevent heatstroke and prevent infectious digestive tract diseases such as enteritis and dysentery. In June to July, vaccines for canine distemper, paratyphoid and Pasteurella etc. must be administered to prevent infectious diseases.
5. Strengthen nutrition during the molting period
When mink enter the molting period, in addition to feeding high-quality concentrated feed, vegetable oil (soybean oil or peanut oil, etc.) and vitamin B2 should also be added to the feed, with each mink fed 10 mg per day.
