How to prepare feed in Angora rabbit farming
Wilted feed for Angora rabbits must be clean and moderate in moisture, which can reduce the occurrence of rabbit diseases and improve the digestibility of feed by Angora rabbits. Root and tuber feeds should be washed clean before feeding, drained of water, and cut into thick strips; green stalks, sweet potato and the like should be chopped into shorter sections; green feeds with high moisture content should be aired before feeding, and fed fresh only after they have lost one part of their moisture.
Angora rabbits do not like feed with a fishy smell or powdered feed. When preparing feed, some sweetener can be added to improve the palatability of the feed. Farms and households with the means should process concentrate and grass meal into fully priced pelleted feed, and feed it together with green, succulent feed; this can both meet the nutritional needs of Angora rabbits and reduce the burden of manually cutting grass. Small-scale raisers who cannot process pelleted feed must mix powdered feed with water until moist before feeding, so as to prevent the rabbits from inhaling the powder into their windpipes and causing coughing. The moisture level should be such that the feed can be squeezed into a ball by hand, with no water flowing out between the fingers, and the feed can still scatter when the fingers are opened and shaken. If fish meal needs to be added to the feed of young rabbits or lactating does, the amount must not exceed 3%, and it must be mixed evenly; the pelleted feed processed in this way will then have no fishy smell.
To ensure the quality of forage and feed, the “ten do not feed” rule must be followed: first, do not feed green feed carrying dew or rainwater; second, do not feed feed carrying mud, sand or manure; do not feed moldy or spoiled feed; fourth, do not feed feed contaminated by pesticides or other toxic substances; fifth, do not feed frozen feed; sixth, do not feed sprouted potatoes or sweet potato with black spot disease; seventh, do not feed uncooked soybeans or black beans; eighth, do not feed toxic plants; ninth, do not feed large amounts of green feed such as Chinese milk vetch that easily causes diarrhea; tenth, do not feed large amounts of green feed with high oxalic acid content such as spinach.
