How can pig farming profits be improved? Breed selection and feeding are key
Choose to raise lean-type crossbred pigs
Lean-type crossbred pigs grow quickly, use less feed, have strong disease resistance, good reproductive performance, and the average litter size is 3 to 4 more pigs than that of fat-type pigs. The efficiency of feed conversion into fat is 4:1, while the efficiency of conversion into lean meat is 1.25:1. In other words, the feed needed to produce 1 kg of fat can produce 3.2 kg of lean meat. Good crossbred pigs have a lean meat rate of more than 58%, daily weight gain increases by 13%~53%, lean meat rate increases by 15%~20%, they produce about 11 kg more lean meat, save more than 15 kg of feed, and increase income by 30 yuan~60 yuan. In addition, the animal protein content of lean meat exceeds 20%, it can be well absorbed by the human body, has good palatability, and sells relatively well. The price of fatty meat abroad is 1/20 of lean meat, and in China it is basically 1/10~1/7, which shows that lean meat has higher economic value.
The selection of piglets is very important. First determine the breed, because different pig breeds also differ in growth speed. Native pigs grow relatively more slowly and take longer to finish. Crossbred pigs grow faster and finish in less time. Research shows that two-way crossbred pigs grow 10%~20% faster than purebred pigs, and three-way crossbred pigs grow about 15% faster than two-way crossbred pigs. In terms of body shape, excellent piglets have a long body, broad front chest, short snout, full hindquarters, sturdy limbs, and normal proportions. The appetite of excellent piglets is directly proportional to weight gain speed. During selection, choose those with a good appetite, active tail, no loose feces, a strong body, and no coughing. Generally, piglets with short, thick tails grow relatively faster, so they also use less feed. Piglets from the same litter live together more harmoniously, are easier to raise in pens, and are less likely to bite each other.
Feeding pigs with raw feed
In practice, feeding pigs with raw feed has many advantages. Raw feed is not cooked, so the nutrients it contains are fully retained, nutrition is more complete, and feed use efficiency is higher; there are many types of raw feed, it has good palatability, and meat pigs have a better appetite, so they grow quickly. Data show that when pigs are fed raw feed, the average daily weight gain per pig is 313 grams, while when pigs are fed cooked feed, the average daily weight gain per pig is 266 grams, so raw feed increases daily weight gain by 35% compared with cooked feed. In terms of saving feed, compared with cooked feed, using raw feed to feed pigs reduces feed consumption by 11%~34% for each 1 kg of live weight gain; when piglets grow to slaughter weight, feeding raw feed can save 13 yuan~17 yuan in fuel costs; feeding raw feed requires no cooking of feed and no boiling of water, which can save 20~40 labor units. Meat pigs eat more and grow quickly, shortening the fattening period and speeding up the turnover rate of meat pigs, which relatively also improves the utilization rate of the pens. When meat pigs are fed scientifically, they grow quickly and have a strong constitution, which enhances disease resistance. Feeding raw feed wet increases the average number of piglets per litter by 2.4 compared with feeding cooked feed wet, raises the farrowing rate by 30%, increases the survival rate by 12%, increases the average weaning weight per pig by 2.5 kg, and raises daily weight gain by 20%, with obvious improvement in economic benefits. The slaughter rate of meat pigs fed raw feed is 72%, while that of meat pigs fed cooked feed is 70%, which increases the slaughter rate. The backfat thickness of pigs fed raw feed is 2.7 cm, and that of pigs fed cooked feed is 2.9 cm, and the lean meat rate is increased by more than 3%, thus improving the lean meat rate. Feeding pigs with raw feed is simple, easy to learn, and easy to promote.
