Every racing pigeon fancier hopes that his pigeons will win the championship or place in short-distance and long-distance races, and this feeling is understandable. However, we must first understand what kind of eye sand is suitable for short-distance or long-distance racing.

Racing pigeon eyes: oval pupil, clearly layered in a gradient pattern, even surface sand that shows the base, bright colors, dry and bright like a divine hawk, suitable for short-distance racing. (Sand full and solid, wide eye sign, colors unusually deep. Broad chest, short tail, long triangular wings, full breast muscles like tendons, legs not high.) Among the prize-winning pigeons in international racing pigeon competitions, pigeons with light eye sand make up the majority.

2. What kind of eye sand is suitable for ultra-long-distance racing?

Racing pigeon eyes: black pupil, contraction and expansion unrestricted by light limits, inner ring wide, rough and thick in a sawtooth shape, sand full and clear with large grains, black, sharp gaze, quick reactions, suitable for ultra-long-distance racing. (Medium to slightly large body size.) Among the prize-winning pigeons in successive ultra-long-distance racing pigeon competitions in Shanghai, China, this type of sand is often seen.

Racing pigeon eyes can be divided into three major categories (yellow eye, sand eye, black eye) with ten kinds of sand types (red sand, yellow sand, peach-red sand, cloud sand, oil sand, blood sand……), each with its own characteristics.  Combinations of racing pigeon eye details (six groups)

1. Torch red sand:

There is green base sand around the pupil, yellow base sand makes up the main component, surface sand is occupied by red sand. Yellow base with floating red sand:

The base sand is yellow, the surface sand shows a small amount of scattered red sand, suitable for flying in weak light and overcast days.

2. Peach-red sand:

There is a white cloud base around the pupil, the surface sand is peach red, suitable for flying on overcast days.  Cloud sand:

There is a gray ring around the pupil, a white cloud base, the surface sand is pink, suitable for flying in gloomy weather.  3. Earth-red sand:

Yellow sand and red sand are evenly matched, suitable for flying in strong light and on overcast days.

Cloud peach-red sand:  This sand type lies between cloud sand and peach-red sand, suitable for flying on overcast days.

4. Coarse red sand:

Slightly yellow base, surface sand deep red, thick and full, suitable for flying in strong-light weather.

Yellow base red sand:

The base sand is yellow, the surface sand is red, half yellow and half red, suitable for flying in strong-light weather

5. Blue water purple peach-blossom sand:

The bottom of the eye sand appears blue, the surface sand is purple-red, suitable for flying on overcast days.

Sauce sand:  suitable for flying on bright sunny days. A brown sand type composed of three colors, yellow, red and black, with golden shiny base sand, dark brown surface sand, and black pupil line edge, belonging to the all-weather sand type.  6. Red sand:  both the sand and the surface sand have red sand as the main component, suitable for flying in strong-light weather.

Purple sand: the entire eye surface is occupied by purple sand, with considerable flying height, belonging to the high-flying pigeon type. There is no fixed pattern for pairing methods of racing pigeon eye sand; it varies from person to person. Famous pigeons, prize-winning pigeons and fast pigeons should be selected as breeding pigeons to pair with each other (before pairing, weigh the pros and cons and make up for each other's weaknesses), use racing methods to determine the winning pigeons as breeding pigeons, and then carry out bloodline restoration.  The speed of a racing pigeon's homing involves many reasons. We humans cannot predict the conditions under which pigeons fly outside; only if the pigeon itself has the conditions for homing is there hope of returning home. I personally believe in the unity of three points, orientation + speed + luck = results (after a pigeon is released in a distant place, bloodline plays no role and serves only as a reference).
