High-quality and efficient breeding and management experience for maggot farming
1. Maggot breeding tools. Maggots can be bred in trays, jars, ponds, etc., according to actual needs. Breeding trays can be made of plastic or bamboo and wood into a square shape, with a tray height of about 20 cm, and the size should be based on convenience for management; breeding jars use ordinary shallow-bottomed clay jars with a mouth diameter of more than 60 cm; for large-scale breeding, cement ponds can be built, with a pond depth of 30 cm, length of 2 m, and width of 1 m, and multiple ponds connected in rows.
2. Placing eggs. Before placing eggs, first spread a layer of feed 5 cm thick in the breeding container, then evenly sprinkle the fly eggs together with the egg-laying material onto the surface of the feed, and then cover it with feed 1-2 cm thick to retain moisture, so as to facilitate egg hatching. For the amount of eggs placed, put about 4 g of eggs per 10 kg of feed, which can produce 1 kg of maggots. After placing the eggs, cover well with a lid made of nylon gauze. For breeding in trays, the trays can be placed on shelves for three-dimensional breeding. When the temperature is above 20°C, larvae can hatch the same day. 3. Daily management. The maggot breeding room should be hung with black door curtains and window curtains to prevent sunlight exposure. The indoor light should be relatively weak, and the temperature should be adjusted between 25-35°C. When the temperature exceeds 36°C, ventilate to cool it down; the feed moisture should be controlled between 65%-70%. During the breeding process, the larvae constantly move and feed, and the feces and feed will gradually become loose, the odor will decrease, the water content will decrease, and the volume will be greatly reduced. Attention should be paid to timely supplementing fresh feed, so as to avoid the larvae crawling out of the breeding container and escaping when feed is insufficient. 4. Collection of maggots. Generally, after 4-5 days of breeding, when the maggots turn yellow, they should be collected and used in time. The method is to use the maggots' fear of light for collection, placing the feed together with the maggots on a maggot separation box for separation. Or under natural light during the day, continuously rake the surface feed of the maggot breeding pond with a manure rake, and the maggots will burrow inward, then immediately remove the surface feed. Repeat this method many times, and finally a small amount of feed and a large number of maggots remain, then use a sieve with 16-mesh aperture to separate, thus obtaining relatively clean maggots. The separated maggots should first be washed clean, then soaked and disinfected in a solution with a concentration of 20 g of potassium permanganate per cubic meter of water, and then they can be directly used to feed pond catfish. 5. Treatment of manure material after maggot breeding
After separating the maggots, a small amount of maggots often still remain in the manure material. If the manure material is directly put into the environment, it will cause the maggots to emerge as flies and pollute the environment. Therefore, the manure material after maggot breeding must be properly treated. Method one: put the manure material directly into a domestic fish breeding pond as pond fertilizer, and the maggots in it are fish bait; method two: spread a layer of lime powder on the surface of the manure to kill the maggots, and after a few days it can be applied in farmland.
