Prevention and Treatment Methods for Ozone Poisoning in Broiler Chicken Farming

1. Dissection

Severe myocardial congestion, myocardial degeneration; the liver is dark brown, enlarged, with small pinpoint-like depressions in some areas; the lungs show severe hemorrhage, appearing dark red; the spleen shows reticular congestion; there is a black band at the junction of the proventriculus and gizzard; the duodenum is congested, with slight elevation of the lymphoid aggregates in the initial segment of the ileum, and slight hemorrhage of the cecal tonsils; diffuse hemorrhage of the trachea, with bloody sputum; no abnormalities seen in the thymus; no abnormalities seen in the subcutaneous tissue of the head.

2. Treatment Measures

1. Lower the fan temperature control setting by one degree, and lower the plastic film on the water curtain by 60 cm to increase ventilation.

2. Change the ozone machine's oxygen supply time to once every hour, 10 minutes each time.

3. Oral glucose at 5% concentration, double the amount of vitamin C, free drinking water at night, 4 hours per day, for two consecutive days. For each shed, use 2 jin of licorice + 4 jin of mung beans, decoct in water, then dilute with 1500 jin of water, free drinking water in the afternoon, for 2 consecutive days.

4. Chinese herbal medicine: Scutellaria baicalensis 2000 grams, Forsythia suspensa 1500 grams, Schizonepeta tenuifolia 1200 grams, Saposhnikovia divaricata 900 grams, Atractylodes lancea 1000 grams, Mentha haplocalyx 1000 grams, Lasiosphaera seu Calvatia 1000 grams, Belamcanda chinensis 800 grams, borneol 200 grams, indigo naturalis 200 grams, licorice 600 grams. Calculated at 2 grams per chicken, after grinding, soak in boiling water for 30 minutes, mix into the feed each morning for 3 hours, once per day, for 2 consecutive days. Two days later, deaths stopped in the whole flock, and the coughing basically disappeared.

Analysis: Ozone used in chicken houses can disinfect, supply oxygen, and promote growth, but it is a toxic gas. When supplying ozone, note that the interval between supplies must not be less than 50 minutes, and ventilation must be strengthened to expel excess carbon dioxide and other gases out of the chicken house. Under natural conditions, ozone can decompose into oxygen in about 25 to 30 minutes. Supplying ozone too frequently causes too much ozone to be unable to decompose inside the chicken house and unable to be discharged outside the house, causing or contributing to damage to the respiratory mucosal tissue.
