Generally speaking, meat dog feed should be reasonably formulated from animal-based feed, plant-based feed and mineral feed according to the dog's nutritional requirements and the dog's growth conditions in actual feeding practice. Once a good feed formula is available, scientific preparation should also be carried out. The purpose of feed preparation is to improve the palatability of the feed and to preserve or enhance its nutritional value. The requirements for feed preparation are: be hygienic, preserve nutrition, be liked by dogs, be easy to digest, avoid waste, and reduce costs. The commonly used method of preparing dog feed is cooking. During processing, the following points should be noted:

1. Cooking must not leave the feed undercooked or burnt, otherwise it will affect the dog's palatability toward the feed and its digestion and absorption. 2. Raw meat or internal organs should be washed clean with cold water, and the soaking time should not be too long, so as to prevent protein loss. The meat should be chopped and cooked thoroughly, only to the extent that it can be sterilized and the meat is cooked; it should not be stewed until mushy. The meat broth can be mixed with the dog food. 3. Vegetables should be washed clean and chopped, then placed in the meat broth after removing the meat chunks and cooked until done but not mushy, so as to prevent the loss of vitamins in the vegetables. Vegetables can also be cooked separately, and then mixed into the feed together with meat, fish meal, bone meal, salt, etc. before feeding. Root tubers (such as radishes and potatoes) should preferably not be peeled; after washing, cut them into pieces and cook them separately or together with the meat broth until done but not mushy. 4. For grains, it is only necessary to rinse away sand and soil with clean water. Do not wash them too many times, so as to reduce the loss of nutrients. If soaking is needed for swelling, then after soaking, pour the soaking water and the grains together into the pot and cook them. Cornmeal, rice bran and wheat bran can be rinsed and mixed with boiling water, then steamed into cakes or steamed corn bread, cut into small pieces, and mixed with meat and vegetable broth, salt, bone meal, fish meal, etc. for feeding. Bones can be given to dogs to gnaw directly, or made into meat-and-bone meal and then mixed with other feed for feeding. 5. Dog food is best prepared and eaten fresh; it should not be left overnight, so as to prevent the food from becoming sour, spoiled or moldy after being left for too long in hot weather, and strictly prevent the occurrence of dog food poisoning and dog digestive tract diseases.
