Currently, raising meat ducks in rural areas is quite profitable, because the meat duck raising cycle is short. However, it is also very common for farmers to abuse veterinary drugs and use medication unreasonably in order to prevent and treat meat duck diseases. The current medication issues in meat duck production are analyzed and summarized below.

1. Fully understand veterinary drugs and use medication scientifically. Generally, some meat duck diseases are caused by viruses, such as duck plague and duck hepatitis; some are caused by bacterial infections, such as serositis and colibacillosis. Viral diseases are often treated with drugs such as interferon, serum, yolk antibody and astragalus polysaccharide, while bacterial diseases are treated with highly effective antibacterial drugs. In treating meat duck diseases with medication, it is necessary to grasp the principle of combining Chinese medicine and Western medicine, and combining antiviral and antibacterial treatment, and not blindly administer large doses.

2. Formulate a reasonable dosing plan and administration method. In meat duck medication, a reasonable dosing plan must first be formulated according to the condition, preferably under the guidance of a veterinarian. When using antibacterial drugs to treat diseases, there must be an appropriate dose, interval and course of treatment. The course of treatment should be sufficient. For general infectious diseases, medication can be continued for 3-4 days, and after symptoms disappear, continue for another 1-2 days to prevent relapse; the course of treatment for sulfonamide drugs is longer.

3. Disinfect regularly and strengthen immunization. Regular disinfection has a positive effect on preventing and treating duck diseases. Highly effective and low-toxicity disinfectants such as organochlorine should be selected. Currently, drugs used for environmental disinfection in meat duck farms include: aldehydes (formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde), alkalis (such as caustic soda, quicklime), halogen compounds (chlorine preparations such as bleaching powder, Xiaoduwang, Mieduwei, etc.), peroxides (such as peracetic acid), and quaternary ammonium salts (such as Baidusha). Establish a disinfection procedure; generally, disinfection with ducks present is carried out once every 10-15 days, and environmental disinfection once every 5-7 days. At the same time, vaccine prevention is indispensable. Vaccination and epidemic prevention should be strengthened, and a reasonable immunization program should be formulated in combination with local diseases. Although the growth cycle of meat ducks is short, drug prevention cannot replace vaccine prevention.
