Prevention and Treatment of Vitamin B Deficiency in Masked Palm Civets
Vitamin B deficiency is caused by a lack of vitamin B complex and is characterized by polyneuritis; a series of changes such as heart failure may also occur Clinical symptoms of vitamin B deficiency: when vitamin B complex is lacking in the feed, after 20—30 days the diseased civets show loss of appetite, and after a further 7-10 days the symptoms worsen, followed by complete loss of appetite, weakness of the limbs, and general debility. In severe cases, ataxia occurs, with continuous screaming, extreme weakness, and a drop in body temperature; if not treated promptly, death will occur. When lactating female civets develop polyneuritis, they often die from spasms due to physical weakness. Diagnosis: a diagnosis can be made based on the history, clinical symptoms, lesions, and detection of vitamin B complex levels in the diet.
Prevention and treatment of vitamin B deficiency: treatment of diseased civets mainly involves supplementing vitamin B complex. For acute cases, especially those with polyneuritis accompanied by refusal to eat, neurological symptoms, and gastric secretion disorders, vitamin B complex can be used, 1-2 mg each time, 1—2 times daily, by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Thiamine chloride can also be given orally for 10-15 days, 1-2 mg daily; at the same time, a complete feed rich in vitamin B complex should be provided. The basic measure for preventing this disease is to feed feed rich in vitamin B complex; generally, every 100 grams of dry matter should contain 100—150 mg of vitamin B complex. The more grain feed in the diet, the greater the amount of vitamin B complex that needs to be supplemented. When the external temperature is high, and in cases of febrile diseases and digestive disorders, the supply of vitamin B complex must be increased. During pregnancy and lactation, female civets should also be fed more yeast and other feed rich in vitamin B complex; feeding rancid and spoiled feed is strictly prohibited, and the feed should be kept fresh and hygienic.
