[Causes of pneumonia in nutria] It mostly develops from bronchitis. Factors such as overwork, colds, stimulation by physical and chemical factors, changeable weather, and long-distance transport weaken the body and lower resistance, inducing this disease. Organisms such as pneumococci, staphylococci, streptococci, and others are all nonspecific pathogens of pneumonia.

[Symptoms of pneumonia in nutria] Depression, standing motionless, rough and disordered fur, reduced or absent appetite, body temperature elevated by 1.5°C to 2°C, showing remittent fever, sometimes intermittent fever, difficulty breathing, increased respiratory rate, cyanosis of the visible mucous membranes; on auscultation of the lungs, moist rales in the early and middle stages, and dry rales in the later stage.

[Treatment of pneumonia in nutria] The treatment principles are strengthening care, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment, relieving cough and expelling phlegm, and stopping exudation. Clinically, antibiotics and sulfonamide preparations are mainly used. Commonly used antibiotics include penicillin, streptomycin, and broad-spectrum antibiotics. The commonly used sulfonamide preparation is sulfadimidine. Penicillin is injected intramuscularly, 100,000 to 200,000 units for foxes, 50,000 to 100,000 units for minks, 3 times daily; if continuous use for several days is ineffective, penicillin and streptomycin can be injected together instead, 25,000 to 50,000 units per kg of body weight, twice daily for several days. If there is high fever, inject antipyrine intramuscularly; for those refusing food and weak individuals, inject 10% glucose and vitamins B and C subcutaneously for fluid replacement.

[Prevention of pneumonia in nutria] Keep the environment clean and dry, remove feces and urine promptly, and prevent the production of irritating gases
