Methods for the Prevention and Treatment of Fowl Cholera in Hwamei Breeding
1. Cause
Cholera, also known as pasteurellosis or hemorrhagic septicemia, is an acute septicemic infectious disease caused by Pasteurella multocida. The bacteria exist both in sick birds and in healthy birds. When a bird's resistance declines due to malnutrition, the bacteria invade the body through respiratory infection or through contaminated feed and drinking water, causing disease via digestive tract infection.
2. Symptoms
The incubation period of this disease is 2-8 days. The condition is divided into the peracute type, acute type and chronic type. In the peracute type, the course of disease in sick birds is very short, and they often die suddenly without obvious symptoms; symptoms of the acute type in sick birds: listlessness, ruffled feathers, standing still with eyes closed, head drawn in and back hunched, unwilling
to eat, with severe diarrhea, difficulty breathing, generally dying within 1-3 days; chronic type: low spirits, reduced appetite, emaciation, swelling of the sinuses, increased secretions, persistent diarrhea, inflamed and swollen joints, difficulty walking, drooping wings, with a course of disease of more than 20 days.
3. Prevention and Treatment
Prevention mainly involves strengthening feeding management. In addition to scientifically formulating nutrition, maintaining good hygiene and regular disinfection, it is also necessary to regularly vaccinate or feed antibiotic-containing feed. For treatment, penicillin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol, oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline and others are all effective, but only one of them may be used, and multiple types must not be used at the same time. In addition, sulfonamide drugs may also be injected intramuscularly, with the dosage determined according to the size of the bird.
