I. Pond conditions

The pond area for raising adult freshwater pomfret should preferably be 10-20 mu, with a water depth of about 1.8 m. The pond is required to have an adequate water source, fresh and pollution-free water quality, convenient water intake and drainage, a flat pond bottom and little silt.

II. Pond clearing and disinfection

At the end of the year, drain the pond and expose it to the sun, remove excess silt, and then carry out pond clearing and disinfection. Use the dry method for pond clearing, applying 150 kg of quicklime per mu, slaked into a slurry and splashed over the whole pond, to kill pathogenic bacteria and other harmful organisms.

III. Filling the pond with water

Add water at the appropriate time according to the stocking model. When adding water, filter it with a 40-mesh net bag to prevent wild and miscellaneous fish from entering.

IV. Fry and fingerling stocking

1. Stocking time

In the Nanjing area, the suitable stocking time is from May 5 to May 15, and it can be adjusted in good time according to weather conditions. The water temperature of the culture pond should remain stable above 18 degrees Celsius. During stocking, the temperature difference between the overwintering pond and the culture pond should be kept within 3 degrees Celsius.

2. Fry and fingerling selection

Select fry and fingerlings that are robust, disease-free, injury-free, deformity-free and free of parasites. It is also required to check the overwintering fry and fingerling records for whether heavy metal drugs such as mercurous nitrate and copper sulfate have been used.

3. Fish fry disinfection

Before stocking, soak the fish fry in 3%-5% salt water for 5-10 min to disinfect the fish body.
