Precautions for Farming Freshwater Pompano During the High-Temperature Season
When summer arrives, temperatures are high, water quality changes easily, and fish diseases occur easily. To reduce the impact of high temperatures on freshwater pompano farming, demonstration households are reminded to pay attention to the following points:
1. Copper sulfate and trichlorfon, as traditional chemical drugs, are widely used in fishery production, and sometimes ferrous sulfate is added as a mixture with good results. However, because copper is highly toxic, freshwater pompano is quite sensitive to copper sulfate. When we use copper sulfate to treat freshwater pompano, we always encounter a situation where the fish do not eat for at least 3 to 5 days after treatment, or eat very little. If the dosage concentration is excessive, freshwater pompano may not eat for about 10 days. If used improperly, it can easily cause harm to freshwater pompano, affect the growth rate, and thus directly affect economic returns; trichlorfon is strictly prohibited in freshwater pompano farming.
2. Dissolved oxygen is very important in freshwater pompano farming. Once hypoxia occurs during the freshwater pompano farming process, the freshwater pompano will swim wildly along the pond edge, consuming a large amount of energy, and will eat almost nothing for at least about 5 days. Therefore, in summer, ponds should be patrolled every day in the morning and evening, attention should be paid to weather changes, and aerators should be turned on or water should be exchanged when necessary.
3. In the high-temperature season, bacteria multiply quickly, freshwater pompano has a large food intake, water quality changes easily, and the fish are prone to diseases such as enteritis and hemorrhage. The production cycle of freshwater pompano is generally 2—3 months. It is best to feed medicated bait once every two weeks for 3 consecutive days, and disinfect the pond once or add fresh water.
4. Freshwater pompano is by nature fond of quiet. Before harvesting, you must estimate the size and the percentage to be marketed, and it is best to complete all harvesting in two operations, with the first being more than 70%, because after one harvest freshwater pompano need 3-5 days before feeding returns to normal.
