I. Bacterial Enteritis

1. External symptoms: After onset, appetite drops significantly, and in severe cases the eel stops eating entirely. Sick eels have poor vitality, and some swim alone away from the group; feces can be seen floating on the water surface of the pond. The eel's abdomen is slightly swollen, the anus protrudes and turns red, and yellow pus-like matter discharges from the anus, with a foul odor.

2. Prevention methods: (1) Feed high-quality fresh feed, and prevent the feeding of expired, spoiled, or poor-quality feed. (2) Control the amount of feed, especially when seasons change and water temperature is unstable; it is better to feed less than more. (3) Pay attention to feed hygiene: disinfect bloodworms thoroughly, do not feed bloodworms with poor vitality, disinfect the water used for mixing feed cleanly, and disinfect and clean feed tools and feeding tables. (4) Feed additives that protect intestinal function, such as Weileshu, eel nutritional disease-resistance formula, soybean lecithin, probiotics, Baoweisu, vitamin C ester, yeast, etc., while regularly adding green disease-prevention drugs such as allicin, berberine, Baiduning, etc.

3. Treatment methods: Early detection and early treatment are essential. In early detection, use berberine 1-1.5 g/kg feed + Baoweisu 3 g/kg feed, or Sunuo 3 g + Baiduning 3 g/kg feed, continuously for 3-5 days, while switching to pollen, nutritional disease-resistance formula, yeast, etc. In severe cases, choose effective antibiotics, such as Kangteling 0.5 g/kg feed or Anpule 3 g/kg feed, adding allicin 0.1-0.5 g/kg feed and intestinal Baoweisu, continuously for 5 days, then switch to probiotics and Ganleshu, etc.

II. Colitis Caused by Drug Damage

1. External symptoms: Sick eels show decreased feed intake, prolonged feeding time, poor digestion, low feed efficiency, and slow growth. During farming observation, many black or white feces covered with mucus are often found on the pond surface, at the pond bottom, or around the drainage box. The feces are harder and shorter than normal, and transparent gelatinous bodies are often found in the later-stage feces. After adding fish oil or after satiation, floating feces increase.

2. Prevention methods: (1) Mainly rational drug use. Feed manufacturers are prohibited from adding olaquindox, flavomycin, etc. to feed; choose Chinese herbal medicines to prevent disease. Add intestinal- and liver-protecting drugs to feed, such as Sanhuang powder, Baiduning, eel nutritional disease-resistance formula, Ganleshu, Baoweisu, soybean lecithin, etc. (2) Reduce eel stress: carry out grading operations carefully, shorten the time as much as possible, and after grading, appropriately disinfect with low-concentration Baichongsha, Bikedu, formalin, etc. After applying mebendazole and its preparations, first use Beida water purifier and ammonia-chlorine remover to eliminate drug damage, then use drugs to stimulate mucus secretion and eliminate cortisol deposition. (3) Regularly add microecological preparations specially for aquaculture, such as probiotics, EM bacteria, photosynthetic bacteria; use bioactive substances such as Mule 888, Ganleshu, Baoweisu, eel nutritional disease-resistance formula, compound allicin, berberine hydrochloride, 654-2 (anisodamine), etc.

3. Treatment methods: (1) When this kind of enteritis appears in eels, first diagnose correctly and avoid treatment with antibiotics. (2) After diagnosis, choose effective drugs for oral treatment, select high-quality feed, ensure nutrition, and add blood-activating substances such as nutritional disease-resistance formula, Yixuekang, Baoweisu, anisodamine (654-2), Mule 888, etc.; natto enzyme, high-quality yeast, fortified multivitamins, enzyme preparations, and microecological preparations can be used in combination. (3) While using drugs, formulate a recovery plan and strictly control the feeding amount, with 15—30 days as one treatment course, recovering gradually; avoid rushing and seeking quick results. No recovery plan can show obvious effects within 3—5 days. External disinfectants should be chosen selectively to reduce irritation; you may keep using 5‰ saline or use high-efficiency oxygen enhancers, strong Hain, povidone-iodine, Baichongsha, Bikedu, etc. for disinfection, and avoid mebendazole deworming as much as possible.
