1. Aflatoxin Poisoning

(1) Cause: Meat ducks develop this disease after eating feed containing aflatoxin.

(2) Clinical symptoms: This disease is mainly characterized by damage to the liver of meat ducks. Sick ducks gradually lose appetite, grow slowly, lose feathers, become lame, and experience convulsions, assuming an opisthotonus posture before death. The mortality rate of this disease can reach 100%.

(3) Prevention and treatment measures: There is no effective drug treatment for this disease. As long as feed containing aflatoxin is stopped, the disease will quickly cease. Therefore, during hot and rainy seasons, attention should be paid to preventing mold in feed.

2. Sulfonamide Drug Poisoning

(1) Cause: Taking sulfonamide drugs for too long or in excessive doses can cause sulfonamide drug poisoning in meat ducks.

(2) Clinical symptoms: Acutely poisoned ducks show symptoms such as excitement, refusal to eat, diarrhea, convulsions, and paralysis. Chronic cases show depression, reduced appetite, diarrhea, and soy-sauce-colored feces. Sick ducks develop hemolytic anemia, reduced egg production, or soft-shelled eggs.

(3) Prevention and treatment measures: Stop administering sulfonamide drugs, and simultaneously give 1% to 5% baking soda water.

3. Salt Poisoning

(1) Cause: Accidentally eating (drinking) feed (water) with excessive salt content can cause salt poisoning.

(2) Clinical symptoms: Sick ducks have poor appetite, increased thirst, mucus flowing from the mouth and nose, listlessness, weakness in both legs, difficulty moving, often paralysis, difficulty breathing, and restless calling.

(3) Prevention and treatment measures: Immediately stop feeding salt-containing feed and water, provide clean water with added sugar, and feed more green fodder.
