How to treat shrink-withering disease in farmed river snails
I think everyone is very familiar with river snails, especially as people's living standards have continued to rise in recent years, so they have become more and more particular about what they eat. As a result, river snails have gradually made their way into countless households, especially in the late-night snack industry, where river snails are used very widely.
Treatment of shrink-withering disease in farmed river snails
Causes of shrink-withering disease in river snails: severe parasitic infection, severe feed shortage, excessive stocking density, etc.
Symptoms of shrink-withering disease in river snails: the body is severely emaciated and the constitution is weak; in some cases the operculum sinks deep inside the shell.
Treatment of shrink-withering disease in river snails: when caused by parasitic infection, it can be handled by referring to parasitic and invasive diseases; when caused by severe feed shortage, feeding can be intensified.
Prospects for river snail farming
River snail meat is a nutrient-rich natural health food, and abroad it is also known as a beauty food. It contains 10.3% protein and 1.2% fat, and also contains vitamins, calcium, iron and other elements essential to the human body. River snail meat is nutritionally superior to chicken, duck, goose and pork, and is no less nutritious than crucian carp, sea cucumber, etc. River snail meat can nourish kidney yin, improve eyesight and clear the mind, enhance muscle elasticity and make the skin delicate, etc.
River snails can be used as an everyday meat dish, and can also be processed into a series of foods, prepared into many kinds of medicinal dishes, and used to prevent and treat diseases. At present, naturally growing river snails are far from meeting market demand, and river snail farming grows fast and yields high, so farming river snails has broad “money” prospects.

River snails is the general name for edible aquatic animals of the family Viviparidae, and there are many varieties, with common ones including round river snail, river snail, yellow snail, mud snail, fragrant snail, etc. River snail meat is a nutrient-rich natural health food, and abroad it is also known as a beauty food. In recent years, as the natural yield of river snails has gradually declined, the river snail market has kept looking up. At present, artificial farming has already begun in areas such as Guangdong and Fujian, and many farmers regard river snail farming as a business venture and are vigorously developing it.
Pond farming techniques for river snails
1. Pond requirements: river snails can live normally in water bodies such as paddy fields, ditches and ponds with a water depth of more than 20cm, and can adapt to fertile water environments. It is enough to choose an earthen pond with a depth of more than 1m, and the pond bottom is best made of soft humus soil, with no limit on area size. In order to increase the surface area for river snails to crawl and attach to, and at the same time create good shade conditions for them, water spinach can be planted along the pond edges; if the pond area is relatively large, some emergent or floating plants such as lotus can also be planted in the middle of the pond.
2. Water source conditions: river snails are cold-tolerant and afraid of heat, and their suitable living temperature range is 20℃~28℃. Below 10℃ or above 30℃, they stop feeding and burrow into mud or grass to avoid the cold or heat. When the water temperature exceeds 40℃, river snails will be scalded to death. Therefore, in order to ensure that water can often be added to the pond during the high-temperature season, the water source at the farming site must be sufficient and not polluted by industrial or agricultural wastewater.
3. Pond disinfection: 15 days before stocking the seed snails, thoroughly disinfect the pond with quicklime or bleaching powder. The specific methods are: for dry pond disinfection with quicklime, the amount used is 60kg/mu~70kg/mu; for clearing the pond with water (water depth 1m), the amount used is 135kg/mu~165kg/mu, and after slaking into slurry it is splashed over the whole pond; for dry pond disinfection with bleaching powder, the amount used is 10kg/mu~12kg/mu; for clearing the pond with water (water depth 1m), the amount used is 13kg/mu~14kg/mu, and after dissolving it is splashed over the whole pond.
4. Selection and stocking of seed snails: the size of seed snails is best around 60 snails/kg~80 snails/kg. Artificially farmed adult snails can be selected, or wild snails can be purchased directly from the place of origin. When purchasing wild snails, adult snails with rough shells, large amounts of algae attached, and dark black color should be removed, because such adult snails often die in large numbers after giving birth, and some even die before finishing giving birth, directly causing a certain impact on farming yield.
In the process of river snail farming, disease prevention is very important. Only by controlling river snail diseases well can the farming yield of river snails be increased and more profit be created under the same conditions. Therefore, it is very necessary for farmers to understand and recognize river snail diseases.
