With the continuous development of our country's aquaculture industry, river snail farming has also become a farming project that attracts considerable attention at present. We all know that the market for river snails has been very strong in recent years, especially in the late-night snack industry, where river snail sales are very large.

Feeding and management of juvenile river snails in river snail farming

The main food of juvenile river snails is microorganisms in the water or the tender stems and leaves of aquatic plants. The feed requirements are fine, delicate, tender, juicy, easy to digest and rich in nutrients, mainly fresh tender green vegetable leaves, supplemented with a small amount of wheat bran, rice bran, fish meal, etc. Artificial rearing requires applying a certain amount of farmyard manure to cultivate water quality and breed plankton. The feeding amount is 250 grams of green feed and 50 grams of concentrated feed per square meter per day. In addition, organic fertilizer composted from weeds along the pond edge is also a good feed for raising river snails. For the feeding and management of juvenile river snails, by-products from various grain processing plants, discarded vegetables, etc. can all be fed. Each application of manure at 30% of the snail body weight is sufficient, and concentrated feed such as rice bran and wheat bran at 10% of the snail weight is appropriate. Feed twice a week.

Prospects for river snail farming

River snail meat is a nutrient-rich natural health food, and abroad it is also known as a beauty food. It contains 10.3% protein and 1.2% fat, as well as vitamins, calcium, iron and other elements essential to the human body. The nutrition of river snail meat is superior to that of chicken, duck, goose and pork, and is no less than that of crucian carp and sea cucumber. River snail meat can nourish kidney yin, improve eyesight and clear the mind, enhance muscle elasticity and make the skin delicate.

River snails can be used as an everyday meat dish, and can also be processed into a series of foods, used to cook many medicinal dishes, and used to prevent and treat diseases. At present, naturally growing river snails are far from meeting market demand, and river snail farming grows quickly, has high yield, and farming river snails has broad "money" prospects.

How to select river snails

When buying river snails, choose ones that are large, round in shape and thin-shelled. The operculum of the river snail must be completely retracted, the shell should be pale blue-green, with no meat or juice overflowing, and the individual net weight should be relatively large. River snails are also divided into male and female. Because female river snails store nutrients in preparation for giving birth, their meat is more delicious than that of male river snails.

To select female river snails, you can observe their tentacles: the left and right tentacles of the female are the same size and extend forward; the right tentacle of the male is thick and short, with the tip curving inward to the right. When selecting, you should also pay attention to choosing live, fresh river snails. When selecting, you can gently press the operculum with your finger; if it is elastic, it is a live snail, otherwise it is a dead snail.

Economic benefit analysis of river snails

1. Raising juvenile snails yields benefits in the same year. 7~15 days after early rice transplanting, stock 60,000 river snail seedlings, and by the time late rice is harvested they have reached the size for sale. Calculating at a survival rate of 90%, there are 54,000 in total, with an average weight of 10 grams each, totaling 540 kilograms. Under fully ecological farming, at a selling price of 6 yuan per kilogram, the total income is 3,240 yuan.

2. Rice output increases by 10% per 667 square meters, with an annual increase (two crops) of 160 kilograms, pesticide and chemical fertilizer use is reduced by 70%, and income increases and expenditure is saved by 150 yuan per 667 square meters. Total income is 3,390 yuan. 2. Expenditure for the year: 973 yuan. Balancing income and expenditure, the profit is 2,417 yuan. In the first year, stock 1,100 large snails and keep them in fish ditches and fish pits for continued rearing as breeding snails for the second year. Carrying out self-breeding and self-raising can save the cost of seedlings and bring higher returns.

Although river snail farming is a project with low investment cost and high return profit, farmers should not blindly follow the trend. Before farming, you should first understand its current market conditions and development trends in the coming years. In short, every industry has risks, and it is always good to be cautious.
