Sharing Key Points from Black Guinea Pig Breeding and Management Experience
Black guinea pigs have a very broad diet. For green feed, fresh tender grass is the main choice, such as king grass, napier grass, ryegrass, corn leaves, sugarcane leaves, tree leaves, leafy greens, fruit peels, carrots and sweet potatoes. They have a relatively high digestion rate for crude fiber. If they are not given green feed or dried grass and other plants for a long time, they will develop skin peeling. Generally, feed them once in the morning and once in the evening, about 150 grams per animal per meal.
To promote the growth of black guinea pigs, some complete mixed feed should also be given. Its composition is similar to rabbit feed, with the key point being to prevent the feed from becoming moldy or spoiled. If making homemade mixed feed (concentrate), the raw material ratio is: cornmeal 40%, grain meal 10%, wheat bran 30%, peanut shell meal 15%, fish meal 2%, bone meal 2%, and salt 1%. Make the feed into pellets or mix it with water into a wet feed for feeding. Compound feed is best mixed and fed as needed. When pellet feed is fed directly, clean water should be provided for drinking, or the feed should be mixed with water and fed. Feed small amounts more frequently. The daily ration for each adult guinea pig is about 40 grams, fed 2 times per day, and the feeding trough should be kept clean and hygienic.
After feeding concentrate, put in fresh green feed at the same time. Green feed is best cut and fed on the same day. The daily amount of green feed for each adult guinea pig is about 250 grams. Prevent feeding green feed contaminated by pesticides and other pollutants. The breeding room should be kept quiet, feces should be cleaned every day, and utensils should be scrubbed and washed clean regularly. Room temperature is best kept at 18°C-25°C, with relative humidity 45%-55%, and good winter preparations should be made. Prevent rodents and snakes from entering the breeding room, and create a comfortable living environment for black guinea pigs.
