How to solve the feed problem in gecko farming

1 Light trapping: This is one of the most effective methods. The insect season basically coincides with the gecko's main active feeding period, and with the breeding period when it needs the largest amount of food. In addition to hanging lights to attract insects in the rearing house, black-light lamps and ordinary oil lamps powered by batteries can also be used to collect insects.

2 Rearing silkworms:  Geckos can eat the larvae (silkworms), pupae and adults (moths) of mulberry silkworms and cassava silkworms. Silkworms l——when 2 cm long they are suitable for feeding small geckos; as the silkworms grow they are used to feed geckos, and any surplus can be allowed to spin cocoons, then the pupae are cut out, and the pupae can feed large geckos. Cassava silkworms can be reared all year round, and the silkworm pupae and silkworm moths can also be stored at low temperature, for as long as one to two months; when needed, they can be allowed to emerge as moths, and the moths kept at a low temperature of 7-8°C can stay alive for one month, ready to take and feed at any time, which is quite convenient. In short, rearing silkworms to feed geckos is a good method. If coordinated well, it can also serve two purposes at once.

3 Rearing cockroaches and ground beetles: A pair of cockroaches in southern Guangxi can breed more than 400—1000 small cockroaches in a year, and both small and large cockroaches can be used as bait. Cockroaches are highly viable and easy to rear, but their breeding cycle is long and the number of eggs laid is relatively small. For rearing, a wooden box can be used, with some wooden slats nailed inside, some rotten wood placed in it, and the box lid covered with window screening; every few days feed them once with leftover food, fruit peel, rice bran, mixed powder, etc., and also provide some drinking water. Cockroaches are one of the foods geckos like best. Ground beetles breed relatively quickly and are convenient to rear. A water vat or wooden box can be used, with rotten wood placed inside, and the food is about the same as that for feeding cockroaches. Ground beetles are greedy eaters and prone to gastrointestinal illness, so the feed should be coarser.
