How to select and manage superior breeding chickens? Master these four key points
1. Appropriate ratio selection and pairing
If you have a superior flock but do not carry out rational selection and pairing, and let them mate randomly and indiscriminately, then the offspring produced will not be good. Therefore, in a flock of the same breed, for every 8—10 hens, select 1 particularly outstanding rooster, and it should have unique superior performance, such as fertilization rate and hatchability. Such selection and pairing results will significantly improve the production performance of the offspring.
2. Purification and selection of the best
There are many superior breeds of chickens. In a region, choose breed chickens that adapt to the local natural conditions, have high production performance and economic value, and are welcomed by the people. Practice has proved that it is better to promote one breed in a region, as this gives fast development speed, remarkable results, and is not easily mixed. At the same time, for chickens with messy feather color, particularly early molting, overly late egg laying, or particularly small eggs, once found, they should immediately be moved to another group or culled.
3. Establish good hatching and brooding points
In areas where breed chickens are promoted, each key farm should set up hatching and brooding points, hatch the introduced superior breed eggs at the points, raise them centrally for about 10 days, and then sell them to farmers for raising. At the same time, they should also teach them scientific management and disease prevention and control techniques for breed chickens.
4. Strictly select and retain breeding chickens
When the introduced superior breed chickens reach a certain number, the local inferior breed chickens should be gradually culled, from few to many, from roosters to hens, until they are finally all replaced by superior breed chickens. In the process of achieving breed improvement, attention should also be paid to selecting and retaining breeding chickens, especially strengthening the selection and cultivation of breeding roosters, and carrying out identification work for superior breeds, gradually establishing a breeding system for superior breed chicks, so that the superior high-yield flock can be maintained for a long time.
