In winter, green fodder is lacking, and long-term feeding of dry feed, a single type of feed, and coarse fodder, together with cold weather, little exercise for the pigs, and insufficient drinking water, makes pigs prone to constipation. In the early stage of the disease, they eat little or do not eat, are fond of drinking water, and often assume a defecation posture with an arched back and raised tail. At first they can pass a small amount of dry fecal pellets with mucus on the surface, sometimes streaked with blood. In severe cases, the sick pigs stop defecating, become depressed, have congested conjunctiva, and the belly gradually distends, breathing speeds up, they are restless with abdominal pain, urine output decreases, intestinal sounds are weak or absent, they groan or howl, the body temperature is not high, and finally they fall to the ground and cannot get up, often dying from suffocation or cardiac paralysis.

Solutions:

For this disease, prevention should be the main focus: strengthen feeding management, pay attention to improving feeding conditions, do a good job of cold protection and warmth keeping, and feed as much green, juicy fodder as possible, such as cabbage and radish, and the feed should be clean. Pregnant sows in the late stage and sows shortly after giving birth should be given even more attention. While feeding the pigs, supply sufficient warm water and feed at fixed times and in fixed amounts.

When sick pigs are found, diagnose and treat them promptly. At this time, stop feeding coarse fodder and pay attention to the supply of drinking water and green, juicy fodder. The following methods can also be used:

① Liquid paraffin oil 10-300 ml, given by drench once, and 10 hours later intramuscular injection of neostigmine 3-6 ml.

② Concentrated saline 200-500 ml and 10% caffeine sodium benzoate 3-8 ml, injected once into the ear vein.

③ For constipation in pregnant sows, add 1% sow-specific Dazhuangsu to the daily ration, which effectively lubricates the intestines and relieves constipation, promotes toxin excretion, and comprehensively improves the health level of sows.
