How to grow Peperomia obtusifolia? Cultivation methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When we mention Peperomia obtusifolia, we first think of its attractive plant shape and evergreen leaves all year round, and it is precisely because of this that it is super suitable for indoor cultivation, often used as a decoration in our rooms, generally placed on the balcony, in the living room or bedroom, with excellent ornamental value. So do you know how to grow it well? Today let's learn about it together.

I. Cultivation methods

1. Soil selection

It is extremely fond of soil rich in humus, loose and well-drained. When potting, it is best to use soil mixed with leaf mold and river sand, plus a little base fertilizer, as this is more helpful for its growth.

2. Reasonable watering

During its peak growing period, we should give it plenty of water, especially during the high-temperature summer period, when the amount of watering should be increased even more, with watering once each in the morning and evening being optimal, so as to ensure the humidity of the soil and the air and make the leaves exceptionally emerald green. In winter, when the temperature is lower, it easily enters a dormant period, so watering should be reduced, and it is enough to let the potting soil dry out appropriately.

3. Reasonable fertilizing

It usually has its growing medium changed once every 2 to 3 years, so fertilizing does not need to be too frequent. Generally in autumn, applying it once every 10 days is enough, and in summer, fertilizing must be stopped to prevent root rot.

4. Temperature control

It likes warmth, humidity and a semi-shaded environment, with 25 degrees being optimal, and in winter, 10 to 15 degrees is optimal; if it falls below this range, it needs to be well cared for, otherwise it may easily freeze to death.

5. Light control

It is relatively shade-tolerant, so its demand for light is not great; all year round it only needs to be placed in a sunny spot indoors, especially in spring and autumn, when a little more light can be given appropriately, but it must not be too strong or too weak, otherwise the leaves will lose their luster.

II. Precautions

1. Appropriate pinching

When growing it, when the plant grows to 10 cm tall, it should be appropriately pinched to promote the growth of side branches.

2. Shaded maintenance

In spring, autumn and summer, care should be taken to shade it, and only in winter can it safely be exposed to sunlight.

3. Move it indoors promptly in autumn

It is very afraid of frost, so at the end of autumn, it should be promptly moved indoors for maintenance.
