Detailed Explanation of Key Technical Points for Raising Geese in Plastic Greenhouses
Utilizing the greenhouse effect of plastic greenhouses can save energy and improve feed conversion efficiency. Let's take a look below at plastic greenhouse goose-raising techniques, how to build a goose-raising greenhouse, the drawbacks of simple goose-raising greenhouse farming, and the prevention and treatment of goose influenza.
Plastic Greenhouse Goose-Raising Techniques
I. Brooding Period Management
1. Drinking water
Before the goslings start eating, provide clean, fresh cold boiled water first. During the first week, 5% glucose and electrolytic multivitamins can be added to the water, and the water temperature should be consistent with the temperature inside the greenhouse. Afterward, as the goslings grow, it can gradually be changed to cold water, with 1 water basin placed for every 50 goslings in the greenhouse. Except when water must be restricted for medication and vaccination, the water supply must not be interrupted.
2. Feeding
Goslings can begin feeding 2 h after drinking water. Scatter the feed on a clean plastic sheet and let the goslings feed freely. After 1 week, they should gradually be fed from feed buckets. Choose suitable feed according to the different stages of goose growth and development. However, this improvement must be made gradually. In addition, attention must be paid to properly storing the feed, especially inside a plastic greenhouse, where feed is extremely prone to moisture and mold. If mold occurs, feeding should be stopped immediately; otherwise, geese are highly susceptible to mycosis from eating moldy feed.
3. Forage grass
In the first week, finely chopped green feed can be given as appropriate. To avoid wet bedding and contamination by droppings, green feed can be mixed with concentrated feed and placed in a basin. After 2 weeks, the amount of green feed can be gradually increased. Feeding green feed helps prevent feather pecking and is especially important for the healthy growth of goslings.
II. Growing Period Management
The growing period refers to from 1 month of age to marketing. The characteristics of this stage are that the goose's digestive tract volume increases, digestive capacity and adaptability to the external environment are enhanced, and it can make extensive use of green forage. Therefore, at this time the plastic greenhouse is no longer suitable for the goose's growth needs. During the day, when there is sunlight, they should gradually be taken out of the plastic greenhouse, and free-range grazing in the field is preferable. Especially in clear and warm weather, they should frequently be exposed to the sun. In this way, the geese can get sufficient exercise, strengthen their physique, and improve their vitality. Practice has proved that grazing growing-period geese on grassland and water surfaces, because the geese are often in a fresh-air environment, not only allows them to eat green feed rich in vitamins and protein and save costs, but also gives them sufficient sunlight and enough exercise, resulting in vigorous metabolism and a robust physique.
How to Build a Goose-Raising Greenhouse
After the steel pipe main frame is fixed, build the roof from inside to outside in the following order: rubber foam, thick-density agricultural film, straw mat, thin film and shade net, 5 layers in total; dig a ditch 40 cm wide and 30 cm deep around the greenhouse at 60 cm from it, and use the excavated soil to raise the ground inside the greenhouse, making it slope-shaped and compacted; also dig a ditch 40 cm wide × 25 cm deep in the middle of the greenhouse, and it is best to install automatic drinkers above it; open two skylights (60 cm × 70 cm) on the south side of the top, propped open and closed with wooden strips; surround the greenhouse with thick-density agricultural film, which can be rolled up from bottom to top for ventilation, with an openable height of 1.7 m.
Drawbacks of Simple Goose-Raising Greenhouse Farming
1. Greenhouses are often sealed with plastic sheeting, so air permeability is poor, and the humidity inside the greenhouse is often difficult to control. High humidity is a major taboo in raising goslings.
3. The greenhouse has poor insulation performance, and its sturdiness is also insufficient.
Prevention and Treatment of Goose Influenza
Goose influenza is an acute infectious disease of geese caused by Haemophilus gallinarum. Geese of different ages are susceptible, with young geese being the most easily infected, and it often occurs in spring and autumn.
Symptoms: Sick geese are listless, eat less, have an elevated body temperature, tuck their necks and lie on the ground, have difficulty breathing, shake their heads, and have nasal discharge. To expel the nasal discharge, sick geese often shake their heads vigorously, flinging the nasal discharge far away. Sometimes the head and feet tremble, and diarrhea occurs before death. In severe cases, the feet become paralyzed and they cannot stand or walk.
Treatment: Sulfadiazine can be used, with 1/2 tablet taken orally the first time, and then 1/4 tablet every 4 hours thereafter. For 20% sulfadiazine injection, inject 1 milliliter intramuscularly the first time, and then inject 0.5 milliliter every 4 hours thereafter.
Prevention: Sick geese found should be isolated and treated, the pens and equipment should be strictly disinfected, and the goose house should be kept clean and ventilated.
