Black pig farming cost and profit analysis: is raising black pigs profitable?
The black pig is the foremost local pig breed in Shandong Province, but it has strong disease resistance, a high farrowing rate and delicious meat; of course, its reproductive capacity is also high and its nursing ability is strong. It has a history of more than 2000 years in China, but its growth rate is relatively slow, and it has the drawbacks of very thick skin and coarse bones. So, is raising black pigs profitable? Let's take a look together with the editor.
Is raising black pigs profitable
1. Raising black pigs is not as profitable as raising white pigs. For one black pig, from birth there is a 500 yuan sow feeding cost; the growth cycle is 12 months, and on average 2.5 kg of feed is needed per day (including corn, soybean meal and wheat bran). Calculated at the current market price, feed is about 3 yuan per kg. In addition, auxiliary materials such as wild vegetables, melons and fruit need to be added, costing about 500 yuan per pig. Maintaining a large-scale black pig farm includes fermentation bed investment, farm worker wages, water and electricity fees, equipment depreciation and other costs, which spread to about 1000 yuan per pig. After the black pigs are ready for market, the costs of slaughter, fine cutting, logistics and preservation come to about 600 yuan per pig. Calculated this way, the cost of raising one black pig is 5000~6000 yuan.
2. A white pig sold from the farm can fetch about 2300 yuan, with a net profit of 600~700 yuan, and it can be sent to market twice a year, which is more profitable than raising black pigs.

Hao Xilian, the owner of a pig farm in Jiarui Village, Laixi City, told this writer that the growth cycle of a white pig is 6 months, white pigs eat compound feed, the feed cost per pig is 1300~1400 yuan, and the pig pen maintenance cost spread to each pig is about 300 yuan. Since white pigs ready for market are all collected by slaughtering enterprises, the slaughter and transport cost is zero. Calculated this way, the cost of raising one white pig is 1600~1700 yuan. Also raising pigs, the cost of raising one black pig is enough to raise 3 white pigs.
How to control costs and improve farming efficiency when raising black pigs
1. Reduce feed waste among farmers, do a good job in feeding management, and control the environmental temperature and humidity of the pig pen according to the age and size of the pig herd, reducing excess feed consumption caused by being too cold or too hot. Farming companies should make good feeding plans according to the actual situation of farmers, to avoid stock pressure and mold caused by unreasonable feed purchasing; at the same time, control the indoor temperature and humidity in real time, and put an end to feed being easily scattered and causing direct waste because it is too dry.
2. Focus on technical support. Adopt advanced insulation systems to reduce spending on cold protection and warmth, effectively saving farming costs and improving production efficiency; adopt automatic feeding systems to save on staffing and reduce labor costs.
Which breed of black pig is the best
Jinhua black pig, originally produced in the Jinhua area of Zhejiang Province, is a dual-purpose breed famous at home and abroad, suitable for making cured meat and ham. Its rump, tail and head are black, while the trunk is white; it is early-maturing, easy to fatten, thin-skinned, fine-boned and good in meat quality. Adult pigs weigh 90—100 kg, the average litter size is more than 12 piglets, the daily weight gain of fattening pigs is 350 grams, and the slaughter rate is 73%.
Why are white pigs more popular than black pigs now? Because the profit from white pigs is somewhat better than that from black pigs, which has made many people lose interest in raising black pigs. In fact, black pigs are also very rich in nutrition. Although their profit is not high, if costs are reduced and farming efficiency is improved, there will be no loss.
