The Lion Head Goose originates from Fubin Township, Raoping County, Guangdong. It is mostly distributed in Chenghai, Chao'an, and the outskirts of Shantou City. Many friends do not quite understand the farming techniques for Lion Head Geese and what to pay attention to. Here, the editor has also checked a lot of materials and asked some people who raise Lion Head Geese, and summed up some methods and experience. Next, let's take a look together with the editor.

Lion Head Goose Farming Techniques and Points to Note

1. Farming techniques:

1. Design the size of the brooding room according to the scale of rearing. Generally, within 3 weeks of age, raising 15 to 20 birds requires 1 sq m of indoor area (including passageways and space for work tools), and at the same time it must be possible through operation to achieve ventilation and air permeability.

2. Equip heat preservation equipment properly. At present, there are two relatively commonly used heat preservation methods. One is the self-warming method, that is, using baskets to place the goslings inside them, covered with quilts and other coverings to achieve the purpose of heat preservation. This method is relatively time-consuming and labor-intensive, and can only be applied to small-group rearing; the second is the artificial heating method, that is, using a heat source (such as a heated pit with fire, coal stove, infrared lamp, electric heating tube or electric heating plate, etc.) to achieve the purpose of heat preservation.

3. Configuration of tools: For each net pen as a unit, 2 water troughs (small chicken drinkers), 2 feed troughs (large chicken feed troughs), two pieces of plastic sheeting (for feeding) 50 cm × 50 cm, and one piece of thick cloth or woven plastic cloth (for heat preservation) 2.2 m long and 1.4 m wide must be provided. Disinfection: after being fully equipped, clean and disinfect immediately (fumigate each cubic meter of indoor space with 20 ml formalin and 10 g potassium permanganate) and then set aside for use.

2. Points to note:

Pay attention to the feeding and management of adult Lion Head Geese, grazing and supplementary feeding. Adult geese grow and develop quickly, have a strong appetite, strong adaptability, and tolerance to coarse feed. They are mainly fed green feed or grazed. According to the conditions of the grazing land or green feed, appropriately supplement with mixed feed. The feed formula can be flexibly adjusted and applied by referring to the gosling formula. Each adult goose consumes about 2 to 2.5 kg of green feed per day. As appropriate for breeding geese and fattening geese, supplement with 300 to 400 g of mixed concentrate. Geese from 30 to 50 days of age are fed 4 to 6 times per day and night, and geese from 51 to 80 days of age are fed 3 to 4 times per day and night.

Lion Head Goose Feeding and Management Techniques

1. Lion Head Geese for meat are generally ready for market after 70 days of rearing. To achieve the best economic benefits, scientific methods must be used for feeding and management. The feeding and management of meat geese is usually divided into three stages, namely 1 to 3 weeks of age as the brooding period, 4 to 8 weeks of age as the middle brooding period, and 9 to 10 weeks of age as the large goose period.

2. Heat preservation and moisture prevention: The heat preservation method is to place one 250-watt infrared light bulb 50 cm above the middle of every two small compartments, and use the prepared thick cloth or woven plastic cloth to tightly cover the infrared lamp and the entire pen. Before the goslings enter the brooding room, preheat so that the temperature inside the house reaches 30°C to 32°C, which is suitable.

Disease Prevention and Control of Lion Head Geese

Gosling plague: Gosling plague is a major infectious disease of geese, posing a great threat to goose production, and in recent years not only goslings but also older geese (over 50 days of age) can likewise be infected and become ill. The most effective way to prevent this disease is through maternal goose immunization to produce antibodies that are passed to the offspring. For goslings without maternal antibodies, the preventive method is to inject one dose of attenuated gosling plague vaccine at 5 to 7 days of age, and a second immunization of 1.5 doses at 15 days of age.

How to Disinfect Lion Head Goose Houses

1. For indoor disinfection, first sweep the floor clean, then evenly sprinkle it once with 2% hot alkaline water or 20% hot plant ash water. Brush the walls once with 20% fresh lime milk mixed with 3% Lysol solution. From 5 to 7 days before the goslings enter, fumigate the entire space of the brooding room, including bedding, net beds, and related tools used indoors, with 25 ml formalin and 12.5 g potassium permanganate per cubic meter of space for 12 hours, close doors and windows, and keep sealed until use.

2. For outdoor disinfection, clean thoroughly, repair the drainage system, and disinfect carefully. First wash feeding and drinking utensils clean with clean water, then soak and disinfect them with disinfectants such as Jundusha, Kangduwei, 1210, and Baidusha at the dilution concentrations specified in the instructions, and then set aside for use.

After reading all this, do you have a concrete understanding of the farming techniques and points to note for Lion Head Geese? Here, the editor thinks that raising Lion Head Geese mainly depends on their living environment. Only a suitable living environment can lead to good rearing and good growth, and only then can it bring you good returns.
