What fish can be kept with blood parrot cichlids? Water temperature control matters
Fish are a very familiar kind of animal, and fish meat is also a delicious dish with very rich nutritional value. Many people say that keeping fish at home can bring good luck, so fish keeping is a very common phenomenon. But there are many kinds of fish, and keeping just one kind seems a bit monotonous. However, in many cases keeping fish together has certain requirements.
What fish are better kept with blood parrot cichlids
1. Oscar
The Oscar, also known as the tiger oscar, velvet cichlid, marble cichlid, black pig fish, flower pig fish, and eye-spot astronotus, is a relatively large species among tropical fish. Under suitable natural conditions it can reach 30 cm in length. It has a sturdy, broad build, an oval body that is deep and laterally compressed, a fan-shaped caudal fin, and a large mouth. Its basic body color is black, yellowish-brown, or bluish-black, with irregular orange-yellow patches and red stripes on the sides, resembling a map.
2. Small blue shark
The small blue shark, also known as the ax-head shark, tiger-head shark, etc., has a strong tolerance for low oxygen and wide adaptability, but weak resistance to low temperatures. Its suitable temperature is 20°C-34°C, and the optimal growth water temperature is 26°C-32°C. When the water temperature is below 18°C it moves slowly and reacts sluggishly, and when the water temperature is below 12°C it begins to die. However, it often muddies the water, affecting the ornamental effect.
3. Dinosaur fish
Dinosaur fish are ancient fish. Like arowanas and lungfish, they belong to the large living-fossil fish group. They have a strong physique and medium growth speed, and are not difficult to keep. They accept live foods such as small fish and small shrimp as well as fish worms, and can also be fed frozen Antarctic shrimp and fish pellets. They are basically not picky about food.
4. Flower tiger
The flower tiger fish, also known as the flower leopard stonefish, has an adult body length of 30 cm. It is widely distributed in temperate and tropical waters and generally lives among rocky reefs, so it is sometimes also called a rockfish. It has a huge body, and the markings on its body are not so much like a tiger as like a leopard, so it is also called the flower leopard stonefish.
What water temperature is suitable for blood parrot cichlids
The water temperature for blood parrot cichlids should be controlled at 26°C-27°C. Blood parrot cichlids are a fish species that is quite “sensitive” to temperature. The key point is not that the fish body has a very poor adaptability to temperature, but that under low water temperature and drastic water temperature fluctuations, it easily loses its bright body color due to physiological reactions, and may even develop black stripes or markings. Therefore, if you want blood parrot cichlids to show gorgeous body color and be full of vitality, the water temperature must be controlled at 26°C-27°C. If blood parrot cichlids are kept in a low water temperature environment for a long time, it will not only affect their body color but also easily cause them to get sick or even die.
What to do if blood parrot cichlids turn white
1. Water problems: Blood parrot cichlids themselves belong to hybrid fish, and their genes are not very stable. If water quality and water temperature do not meet the standard, it will cause changes in body color.
2. Environmental problems: If it is a newly bought fish, it is normal for it to not adapt to the new environment and fade to white.
3. Fright problems: Blood parrot cichlids are naturally timid, and turning white after being frightened is also common.
4. Fish problems: Some fish are red to the point of purple in the fish store, but not long after being bought home they fade, and there are obvious black spots under the skin on the back. This kind of fish has been artificially color-enhanced, and it is very difficult to recover after fading.
5. Feed problems: The staple food of blood parrot cichlids should be red-enhancing pellet feed. Feeding other feed or small fish will also cause fading.
6. Water change problems: When changing water for the fish, a large temperature difference, a large water change volume, or changing water too frequently will also affect body color.
7. Lighting problems: When keeping blood parrot cichlids, red lighting should be provided. Turning it on for two hours a day has a color-inducing effect. If white light is used, it is no surprise at all that the fish looks white.
What to do if blood parrot cichlids have bulging eyes
1. In the early stage of the illness, in addition to improving water quality, you can put salt at a concentration of about five-thousandths into the water and raise the temperature to above 30. There will be obvious improvement in three days, then gradually change the water, replace all the water within two weeks, readjust the water quality, and increase nutrition.
2. When the illness is severe, medication must be used. Water-soluble antibiotics such as penicillin and chlortetracycline can be used, putting 10,000-20,000 units of antibiotics per liter of water, while raising the water temperature by 2-3 degrees. A low-concentration potassium permanganate solution can also be selected for splashing or dipping.
3. When it is so severe that the eye rims also begin to rot, put 2 norfloxacin capsules into the tank every day. When putting in the medicine, remove the activated carbon from the filter material. At night, apply 1 pre-dissolved norfloxacin capsule to the eyes, then put the fish back into the water after 30 seconds. It can be cured in about ten days or so.
Although blood parrot cichlids are not commonly seen in daily life, we all know that they are famous for their bright colors, so everyone must master the breeding techniques when keeping them. Also, keeping fish together is not something that can be done casually. Everyone should make choices according to its own characteristics.
