Many people keep ornamental fish at home, but there are so many varieties of ornamental fish that people are not particularly familiar with the fish they do not often see in daily life, and the parrot fish is one of these. Some people who keep parrot fish find that they have laid eggs and think they can hatch out more little fry, but in fact this outcome does not exist, so next let us learn about it together.

What to do when a parrot fish lays eggs

1. Manual cleaning. After a parrot fish lays eggs, they will not hatch into little fry, and they will also pollute the water quality and affect the health of other fish. So you can buy professional tools to clean them up. However, when cleaning you need to be careful, as you may come under attack from the mother fish.

2. Keep some fish with cleaning ability. The pleco is a fish we know well for its cleaning ability, and you can keep some in the fish tank, as it will eat these fish eggs on its own.

How many days until parrot fish eggs hatch into fry

Under normal circumstances, parrot fish eggs cannot hatch into fry. Because the male parrot fish has no sperm, the parrot fish eggs are usually not fertilized eggs. But if there are other fish in the tank, they may also hybridize and produce fry, though the chance is very small. If you want to get fry, you can cross a male flowerhorn or red devil with a female parrot fish to get fry.

How to keep parrot fish red

First, parrot fish also come in good and bad, expensive and cheap; it is suggested that when you go to buy fish, buy the expensive, bright red, disease-free ones. Once a parrot fish has gone white, it is not easy to make it red again; it is easy to keep it as it is.

Second, to keep blood parrot fish well, I personally suggest a bottom filter plus a triple overflow pipe. Strong filtration is the key to keeping fish well. A bottom filter has a large water level drop, which can increase the oxygen content of the water.

Third, maintain good water quality and activity space, and reduce bacterial infection. If the fish gets sick, it will lose its condition. If the space is cramped, the fish is easily startled and subjected to visual pressure, and easily becomes tense.

Fourth, it is suggested to use slightly acidic and medium-soft water to keep parrot fish, so as to maintain the blood-red color. I tested the tap water in my home; the hardness is around 8, and the PH is 8.5, so tap water cannot keep blood parrot fish red.

The correct way to keep parrot fish

1. Temperature: Although parrot fish are fairly adaptable to temperature, they are also very sensitive to drastic changes in water temperature. Under normal circumstances, parrot fish can live freely at a water temperature of 20-30°C, but the best water temperature is 25-30°C.

2. Oxygen: When keeping parrot fish, there must be sufficient oxygen in the water, because parrot fish cannot close their lips and have a poor ability to control the intake and release of water flow.

3. Water changes: New water is what parrot fish love most, and it can make the parrot fish's colors very beautiful. If you do not change the water often, the parrot fish will fade. So, generally, change the water once every three days, and change one quarter each time.

4. Feeding: Parrot fish are a rather greedy animal and will eat bloodworms, brine shrimp, pellet food, flakes and so on, so keeping them alive is very easy, but to raise parrot fish with bright body color and a strong physique is not an easy thing. The owner must feed the food at fixed times and in fixed amounts, and at the same time reasonably match rich nutrition.

5. Fish tank

On the choice of fish tank: use a hexagonal fish tank, with six as the water number; if the owner's Five Elements belong to water, then it can be used; if you choose a rectangular fish tank, the owner's Five Elements belong to metal, which can generate and strengthen water, so it is an auspicious sign; for a rectangular fish tank, if the owner's Five Elements belong to wood, although it drains water energy, the two have a generating relationship, so it can also be a choice.

6. It is best not to keep blood parrot fish mixed with other groups of fish, to avoid it being startled; a startled fish will become thin and small and its color will fade; moreover, the number of blood parrot fish kept should not be large, because blood parrot fish are relatively active and love to play; for example, for an 80 cm aquarium, keep about 20 blood parrot fish.

From the above it can be seen that under normal circumstances parrot fish cannot hatch after laying eggs, and if these fish eggs are not dealt with in time they will cause the water quality to worsen and lead to other fish getting sick. So if you also encounter this situation, you must clean them up in time and not foolishly hope to hatch them.
