Crabs are animals with many varieties, and they like to live in the sea or in water. At present, crabs are very widely distributed in our country, and they can be seen in many places. Nowadays, many people also raise crabs, but during the process of raising them, many people do not know what is best to feed crabs. Let's take a look together below!

What food do crabs eat

Any kind of organism that crabs like to eat and that grows naturally in water or on land is called natural bait. Natural bait mainly includes phytoplankton, aquatic plants, benthic animals, and terrestrial animals and plants.

1. Phytoplankton: including diatoms, golden algae, dinoflagellates, euglenoids, green algae, etc. It is food for early juvenile crabs and zooplankton.

2. Zooplankton: rotifers, cladocerans, copepods, etc. These are good feed for them.

3. Aquatic plants: including Vallisneria, Hydrilla verticillata, Potamogeton crispus, Potamogeton malaianus, duckweed (Wolffia), duckweed (Lemna), water hyacinth, alligator weed, golden thread grass, etc. These are their main natural bait.

4. Benthic animals: snails, Corbicula, freshwater mussels, aquatic earthworms, etc. in the water are excellent feed for them.

5. Terrestrial animals and plants: including yellow mealworms, earthworms, and ryegrass, Pennisetum, comfrey, etc.

How to raise crabs so they don't die

1. To raise them at home, use a basin. You can put some fine sand in the basin to form a small platform. The water for raising them must not be too deep. The best water depth is when the water just covers the crab's shell, and tap water can be used for raising them, but it must be left in the sun for a day before use.

2. Let them sunbathe appropriately. Crabs can be exposed to sunlight, but not for too long.

3. Crabs are omnivorous animals. If conditions allow, you can feed them bloodworms or egg yolk. Of course, crabs can also eat the internal organs of chickens and ducks or small fish and shrimp. At the same time, feed some grass-type food. Pay attention to the feeding amount, and use finishing within half an hour as the standard, otherwise the remaining food will pollute the water they are raised in.

4. The feeding intensity of crabs increases or decreases with changes in season and water temperature. In summer and autumn, when the water temperature rises above 15°C, the crab's feeding ability increases, and at this time they are fed once a day. When the water temperature drops below 15°C, the crab's feeding ability decreases, and they can be fed once every other day or once every few days. The feeding time is best around evening, because crabs are aquatic animals that hide by day and come out at night.

5. Crabs are social animals. It is best to raise several crabs together, as the survival rate this way is relatively high.

6. Clean the crabs. When helping crabs clean themselves, hold the crab with your hand, then use a toothbrush dipped in a little body wash or soap to brush it clean, especially in the dead corners, and pull its legs (don't use too much force) while brushing. After washing, rinse it clean with water. The fish tank should also be washed, and occasionally sprinkle some salt, mainly to prevent infectious diseases.

What are the common crab farming methods

1. Pond crab farming: raising adult crabs in ponds allows the whole farming process to be controlled manually, and the recapture rate is relatively high, but the harvested size and meat quality are inferior to crabs raised in large water bodies.

2. Grass marsh and reed beach crab farming: grass marshes and reed beaches suit the ecological requirements for river crab growth, with low production costs, large market size, and good quality, but their recapture rate is relatively low.

3. Rice field crab farming: using rice fields to raise adult crabs is an emerging aquaculture industry developed in recent years. This method can reduce fertilizer application in rice fields, kill pests, and clear weeds, while also increasing the thousand-grain weight of rice. With slight modification of the rice field environment, it is also suitable for adult crab growth.

Do a good job in crab disease prevention and control

Crab disease prevention and control should insist on giving priority to prevention, achieve early detection and early treatment, prevent disease before it occurs, and treat disease early when it occurs, adopting different methods for prevention at different growth stages. Use microbial preparations such as photosynthetic bacteria and EM bacteria to regulate water quality. In high-temperature seasons, regularly use quicklime, dibromohydantoin, etc. for prevention. During periods of high ciliate incidence, use crustacean cleaner or ciliate cleaner once every 15—20d to kill insects. To avoid drug resistance, drugs should be used alternately. Shake disease is a microorganism between bacteria and viruses. Using decis to clear the pond is an effective method for preventing and treating shake disease.

Crabs generally eat organisms in the water or aquatic plants and the like. If crabs are raised at home, they need to be allowed to bask in the sun at appropriate times, and the number of feedings also needs to be well controlled. In addition, crabs can also be raised in places such as ponds and rice fields, and during the raising process, diseases and pests also need to be prevented and controlled in a timely manner.
