Everyone has heard of the turtle dove, right? It is a kind of bird, and it looks quite nice. But have you ever heard that this bird can be raised? Do you know how to raise turtle doves? Is there anyone considering raising them but not knowing how? To answer everyone's questions, the editor has specially compiled the following materials for everyone to refer to and learn from. Let's take a look.

How to Raise Turtle Doves

1. Feeding method for turtle doves: Birds like turtle doves should be fed small, frequent meals, otherwise they can easily suffer from indigestion. The number of feedings per day should be 4-5 times, generally feeding them crushed corn, soybeans and other ingredients mixed with compound feed. Water intake especially needs to be controlled. Turtle doves drink very little water, so the water container should be wide, and the water depth should be 1-2 cm; if it is deeper, the turtle doves can easily drown.

2. In daily care, it is best to feed some fresh fruit or vegetables at irregular intervals. This can both provide moisture supplementation and supplement vitamins. Since turtle doves are a flying species, in order to be close to their living habits, the breeding cages should generally be built at a height of about 2 m above the ground, and some wood should also be hung inside for the turtle doves to rest on.

Artificial Breeding Techniques for Turtle Doves

1. Establish a site:

A high-altitude net cage should be set up on a sunny slope with good ventilation, dryness and relatively high terrain. The net cage area is generally 40 sq m to 60 sq m, with a height of 2.5 m to 3 m, built with bamboo frames and tied with plastic netting. Inside the net cage, build a 1 sq m bird shed for the turtle doves to take shelter from rain on rainy days and from the sun in summer.

2. Select breeding birds:

Select 10-month-old adult birds that are large, robust and disease-free as breeding birds, and raise them separately. The feed should contain more protein, lecithin and calcium to facilitate reproduction.

3. Egg laying:

Wild breeding birds generally mate and lay eggs in spring and autumn. In artificial breeding, female birds can be injected with estrogen to promote estrus in a short period, so that they can lay eggs every month.

4. Incubation:

Collect the eggs after laying and place them in an incubator for artificial incubation. During incubation, temperature and relative humidity should be well adjusted to ensure a hatching rate above 98%.

What Turtle Doves Eat

1. Turtle doves forage for sorghum, wheat seeds, rice grains and fruits, and sometimes also eat insect larvae. In winter they often eat the seeds and kernels of camphor trees. The nest is built in trees, generally 3-7 m above the ground, made of branches, with a simple structure. Turtle doves are numerous and are game birds with economic value.

2. The necked turtle dove is commensal with humans, inhabiting open sparse woodlands as well as around villages and rice fields, feeding on the ground, and preferring hard granular food such as small snails, camphor seeds and grain. They often stand in pairs on open roads. However, after being disturbed, they slowly flap their wings and fly close to the ground.

After reading the above materials, everyone must already understand how to raise turtle doves. In fact, artificial breeding of turtle doves is possible, but a lot of manpower and material resources need to be invested, so it is best not to raise them. Just raising a myna for fun is enough. I wonder whether this has helped everyone.
