How to Build a Chicken Farm Greenhouse? Methods and Steps Explained
SummaryChoose a place with good ventilation, flat terrain and abundant water sources to build the shed. Determine the size of the shed according to the actual breeding scale. The choice of materials can be decided according to the budget; prices vary from high to low. The height of the shed is generally around 3.5m, which is the most comfortable, convenient for managers to enter and exit, and can also give the flock a more comfortable space to grow. The main body of a chicken farm greenhouse is generally rectangular, while the roof is gabled. Remember to design multiple windows, doors and skylights to facilitate lighting and ventilation.
To build a chicken farm greenhouse, you need to first choose the construction location, determine the greenhouse area, and decide on the raw materials to be used, etc. Design the specifications and structure of the greenhouse, then purchase materials and hire people to build it. Nowadays, many professional companies also undertake the entire construction as a package, which is simple and saves trouble.
1. Site selection
A chicken farm greenhouse needs to be built in a place with good ventilation, relatively flat terrain and relatively convenient transportation. Water sources must also be considered; water is the most basic requirement for chickens to survive, and water quality must be guaranteed. In many places the electricity is unstable, which is also unsuitable, because a sudden power outage will cause losses to the chicken house. To ensure uninterrupted power supply, you can equip a generator yourself.
2. Building the greenhouse
1. Reasonable scale
Determine the building area of the greenhouse according to the actual investment situation of the chicken farmer and the number of chickens raised. If raising about 5,000 birds, a greenhouse building area of about 500 sq m is best. For chicken farmers who are just starting out and have no experience yet, the scale should not be too large. After accumulating experience and capital, gradually expand the scale of chicken raising.
2. Selection of greenhouse materials
There are many kinds of materials used to build a greenhouse. The quality of materials varies, and material prices change according to the different materials. Which material to use specifically can be decided according to the actual economic situation and the materials suitable locally.
Economical type: You can choose bamboo and wood to make the frame. First lay a layer of nylon cloth under the concrete floor, then pour cement about 3cm thick, use bricks to build the outer wall, and be sure to open windows for ventilation. The roof can be made using nylon cloth plus straw plus asbestos.
Simple type: The floor and roof are the same as the economical type, except that the enclosure wall is made of nylon cloth or shade netting, and the cost will be lower than the economical type.
3. Specifications of the greenhouse
These are determined according to the building area. The greenhouse structure is generally a gabled roof with a rectangular main body. The height is slightly higher than that of a normal person, just enough to make it convenient for the breeder to enter and exit. The length and width are determined according to the actual scale. The greenhouse height is generally 3.5m, and the height of the enclosure wall is about 1.9m.
When building the greenhouse, you need to design windows, doors and skylights for the chicken house; a simple style is enough. For the windows and doors, you can make one 1.2 sq m window every 50cm on the north and south walls to facilitate lighting and ventilation. For the skylights, design multiple skylights at the highest point of the roof, which can improve the air quality inside the chicken house and let the flock grow faster and better.
